Game Recap: Suns get hot from three, take down Nets 126-117
NEW YORK— The Phoenix Suns defeated the Brooklyn Nets 126-117 on Monday night. The team is 26-17 on the year and winners of two straight. Collin Gillespie, Devin Booker and Dillon Brooks all scored at least 22 points and combined for 73 points. Phoenix hit 20 threes for just the fourth time this season in one of their best shooting performances of the year. Brooklyn stayed resilient throughout the matchup. It was not an easy win for the Suns. Despite multiple 20-point leads, the Nets clawed back to cut the lead down to four in the fourth quarter. Phoenix is now 2-2 on their road trip with two games left, and as head coach Jordan Ott eluded to pregame, Jalen Green could make his return to the court tomorrow against the Philadelphia 76ers for his first game action since November 8th. Phoenix looks to be getting some help soon. Jordan Ott on Jalen Green playing tomorrow: "That where we're headed."1/— Holden Sherman (@HoldenSherman1) January 19, 2026 The Suns continue to take advantage of lesser opponents. Brooklyn now 12-29 on the year after the loss, they haven’t loss a game to a team not in the play-in or in the playoffs since October. Phoenix is now tied with the Los Angeles Lakers for 6th in the Western Conference. Game Flow First Half The Suns started hot from the field, hitting five of their first eight shots. Dillon Brooks made three early triples, an encouraging sign considering he shot 17% from three last week. Strong ball movement and penetration gave the team a 30-15 lead early on. He hit two triples early on. Just like Brooks, he struggled with his shot last game going 4/13 behind the arc against the Knicks. After one the Suns led 40-26. Phoenix stayed hot from behind the arc to start the second quarter with Gillespie and Ryan Dunn getting in on the action. When the Nets started to gain some momentum leading to a Suns timeout, Phoenix stayed looking for threes with a Royce O’Neale wing three. With a firm lead, the Suns were spreading the ball around. Jordan Ott was relying on his second unit in the second frame. Isaiah Livers got in the game and had some touches and Oso Ighodaro was doing a lot of ball handling. Around the halfway point of the quarter, the Suns’ lead started hovering around 20 points, but the Nets cut into it with threes, ball movement and physical defense. The Nets ended the half on a 24-8 run. At the end of two the Suns lead 72-68. Second Half Phoenix got their lead back up to double digits early in the second half. Brooks, Booker and Collin Gillespie all got some easy looks as the team kept a steady lead as the pace started to slow down. Phoenix had a lot of strong ball movement. DON'T LET COLLIN GET HOT 🔥16 PTS and 3-5 from beyond the arc tonight.@PayPal | #SunsUp pic.twitter.com/Os00EpZBFt— Phoenix Suns (@Suns) January 20, 2026 After three, the lead that the Suns built to end the first quarter was completely back. Suns led 103-89 heading into the fourth. Brooklyn did not lay down to start the fourth. Thanks to their hot shooting and the Suns struggling to score, the Nets cut the lead to 5. With four minutes to go the Nets cut it down to four after a Noah Clowney And-one for their 27th point of the quarter in less than 8 minutes, but never got any closer. Despite Dillon Brooks picking up his 14th technical of the season, the Suns built a sizable lead to take home their 26th win of the year. Up Next Phoenix will head to Philadelphia to face the 76ers tomorrow. Jalen Green is set to return for his first game since November 8th. Bright Side will be on the scene with live coverage. Cardinals NFL Draft prospects to watch in the Miami vs. Indiana CFP Championship Game
The Arizona Cardinals don’t have a head coach. That doesn’t matter, we can still dream about the 2026 NFL Draft, and tonight, we see some of the best players, and potentially best fits for the Arizona Cardinals, even if we don’t know who the head coach is. Let’s take a look. Fernando Mendoza, QB – Indiana You would have to assume any new head coach would like to add a new quarterback, and while it is highly, highly unlikely the Cardinals have a bite at the Mendoza apple, we still have to acknowledge his presence as the Heisman winner and likely first pick in the 2026 NFL Draft… If he declares. Rueben Bain Jr., Edge – Miami While the Cardinals have heavily invested in the defense, they have not added a complete game changer yet. Bain could be that coming off the edge. And while no one wants to talk about the third overall pick in terms of “bust” his floor is a six sack a year guy who is elite against the run. If he reaches his ceiling, we could be talking an All Pro type of player. Francis Mauigoa, OT – Miami Maybe the one player all Cardinals fans can agree on if the draft falls Mendoza/Bain at 1 and 2. Mauigoa is a monster and has been everything and more for the Hurricanes offensive line. Mauigoa is only 20 years old and has already started over 40 games in his collegiate career, he is as blue chip as they come. Others to watch While there are plenty more names, those are likely the only three good enough to be picked at third overall, but that doesn’t mean there are not a dozen or so more players that will be drafted. Carter Smith, OT – Indiana Akheem Mesidor, Edge – Miami Keionte Scott, DB – Miami Ahmad Moten, DT – Miami Carson Beck, QB – Miami Elijah Sarratt, WR – Indiana Mikail Kamara, DT – Indiana D’Angelo Ponds, DB – Indiana CJ Daniels, WR – Miami Omar Cooper, WR – Indiana

Detroit Lions close to hiring former Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator Drew Petzing
Well, that is something. The Arizona Cardinals offense in 2024 with a healthy Kyler Murray, a decent and healthy offensive line and Drew Petzing calling plays were nearly a top 12 offense in all statistical and/or efficiency measures. That lead to a lot of excitement for 2025. Obviously injuries and ineffectiveness hurt things, but the NFL still seems to believe in Drew Petzing, as he is close to becoming the new offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions per reports. Sources: The Detroit Lions are working to finalize a deal to hire former Cardinals offensive coordinator Drew Petzing as their next offensive coordinator. pic.twitter.com/yBRs33V7LA— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) January 19, 2026 Petzing in three years as the Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator had the Cardinals: 2023 – 19th in yards and 24th in points2024 – 11th in yards and 12th in points2025 – 19th in yards and 23rd in points He had a top seven rushing offense in yards in 2023 and 2024, and was second in yards per attempt in both seasons. He had a top seven passing offense for the first time in 2025, but the rushing offense plummeted to 31st in yards, despite being 16th in yards per attempt. That is what happens when you are 32nd in rushing attempts. The problem with the passing offense was that it was first in attempts, but seven in yards. Compare that to the rushing success in ‘23 where they were 13 in attempts and fourth in yards and ‘24 where they were 11th in attempts and seventh in yards and you see the efficiency was lacking in the passing game. He should have a chance to have a much more complete offense in 2026 with the Lions. Good luck in your next stop, Drew.

UPDATED: Chiefs plan to hire Eric Bienemy as OC
The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly making the change at offensive coordinator that felt inevitable with Matt Nagy’s push for a head coaching job. Reunion: All signs are pointing towards Eric Bieniemy returning to the Chiefs as their offensive coordinator, sources say. With Matt Nagy out of contract and in the head coaching mix, Kansas City plans to bring back Bieniemy, a valued member of Andy Reid’s staff from 2013-22. pic.twitter.com/VtsYJxZ2xR— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) January 19, 2026 The first reported interview request by the Chiefs was Bears’ running back coach Eric Bieniemy, and the team is planning to make it the only one by hiring the former Kansas City assistant coach of 10 years. Bieniemy was the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator from 2018-2022 before making a lateral move to coach the Washington Commanders for one season. After a one-year stint as associate head coach at UCLA, Bieniemy joined the Chicago Bears’ coaching staff with newly-hired head coach Ben Johnson as the running backs coach. This season, Chicago won the NFC North and finished top 10 in scoring, total yards and rushing yards. On Sunday, the Los Angeles Rams ended the Bears’ magical season in a 20-17 overtime thriller, and Bieniemy became available to be interviewed for promotion. Before Bieniemy’s five-year, two-championship run as the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator, he was the running backs coach, a title he held from the first year of head coach Andy Reid’s tenure in 2013. His time leading the Chiefs’ offense coincided with the first five starting seasons of quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ career, and Kansas City finished each year in the top 6 of NFL teams in scoring and total yardage. That’s remarkable when compared to the last three seasons: the Chiefs have not finished higher than ninth in either category. Mahomes and Bieniemy had a unique relationship. The coach called him a “competitive prick” in the 2020 preseason, and there were multiple animated conversations on the sidelines between the 2021 and 2022 seasons. Here is the exchange between Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and OC Eric Bieniemy at end of first half. Seems Bieniemy may have made the decision to run the ball on second-and-20 at the KC 36 to bleed the final second-quarter seconds. Chiefs ball to start third. pic.twitter.com/2MwaVi2ayf— Pete Sweeney (@pgsween) September 25, 2022 However, when Mahomes spoke with local media last Thursday, he made a point to emphasize accountability as a desired trait in the team’s next offensive coordinator. Well, real accountability from a football coach isn’t always fun for the player, and it doesn’t always look great to fans without the internal perspective. Many factors are playing into the Chiefs’ clear priority to bring Bieniemy back, but there’s one certainty: he will heighten the passion and intensity of the offensive coaching staff.
