Hawks fans irate at CJ McCollum after disastrous final possession vs Bucks
On Monday afternoon, the Atlanta Hawks hit the floor at home for an MLK Day game against the Milwaukee Bucks. The Hawks were in desperate need of a win, having dropped three straight games leading into this contest, including a blowout loss against the Boston Celtics on Saturday night. Instead, Atlanta shot a horrid 1-22 from the three-point line in the first half, and although they came back to make it a close game late, they ultimately fell when CJ McCollum’s wild attempt at the basket missed in the final seconds. You can tell CJ McCollum was not passing this ball and going to shoot the ball no matter what happen smh pic.twitter.com/wWHU4UvbBv — The Hood Therapist (@OhhMar24) January 19, 2026 Fans on X, formerly Twitter, were not thrilled by the attempt from the Hawks’ new trade acquisition. “CJ McCollum ain’t no way yall came back from 20 to blow the last shot like that,” wrote one fan. “Has a NBA fanbase ever hated a player as quickly as Hawks fans hated CJ McCollum,” wondered another. Others noted that the Hawks had two hot hands on the floor in Jalen Johnson and Nickeil Alexander-Walker, neither of whom got the ball on the final possession. “Why is CJ McCollum getting the final shot over Jalen Johnson or NAW? Brutal ending to a great Hawks comeback,” wrote one fan. Indeed, Alexander-Walker was the main reason that the Hawks were able to make this a game late, knocking down five three-pointers in the fourth quarter alone on his way to a 32-point afternoon. However, ultimately, McCollum’s miss solidified the Hawks’ fourth straight loss, dropping them five games below the .500 mark in the process. McCollum was recently brought in along with Corey Kispert from the Washington Wizards in exchange for Trae Young, and thus far, the duo has not ingratiated themselves particularly well with the Atlanta fanbase. It remains to be seen whether the Hawks will look to make any further moves ahead of the trade deadline, which is less than a month away. In any case, Atlanta will next take the court on Wednesday night against the Memphis Grizzlies. Sean McDermott writes classy farewell to Buffalo after firing
The Buffalo Bills seek a new head coach for the first time since 2017 after firing Sean McDermott. Buffalo canned McDermott Monday morning following their NFL Playoffs loss to the Denver Broncos. This decision sent shockwaves across the league and football world in general. McDermott, though, dropped a heartfelt letter after the stunning move. NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero took a snapshot of the lengthy “thank you” McDemott posted — including thanking “Bills Mafia.” “We Love You! We will miss Buffalo. Bills Mafia, you are one of one!” was some of the excerpts McDermott shared. One that features past league Most Valuable Player winner Josh Allen and young talent surrounding him like Keon Coleman and James Cook. However, some believe McDermott deserved to go following this new postseason nightmare. The Bills appeared to have the stars aligned for a Super Bowl run. They entered an AFC bracket that didn’t have Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson or Joe Burrow and their teams. Even Aaron Rodgers with the Pittsburgh Steelers endured an early exit. The franchise added a brand new heartbreaking moment among a litany of heartbreakers — from the 0-4 Super Bowl run of the 1990s to the Mahomes/Chiefs 13-seconds game of the 2021 playoffs. Mike Tomlin is immediately one name to monitor for Buffalo. Other candidates include current offensive coordinator Joe Brady and even former Bills OC/ex-Giants HC Brian Daboll. McDermott, meanwhile, will more than likely hear head coaching suitors thanks to his 106-58 overall record. ‘An incredible place’: Volunteers help spruce up Langston Golf Course on MLK Day

Dozens spent the morning of Martin Luther King Jr. Day pulling invasive plants, grasses and shrubs along the Anacostia River and Kingman Lake. Mike McCartin, co-founder of National Links Trust, told WTOP the organization hosts this event every year. “It’s always been a very popular, but chilly, time,” McCartin said. “It’s important to the golf course because these buffer zones along the lake and the river are full of invasive plant material.” One of invasive species being targeted is the bush honeysuckle. Volunteer Bianca Andre, who has a degree in environmental studies, said it needs to be removed because it’s the favorite food of an invasive insect — the spotted lanternfly. “We’re removing some of their habitats so hopefully we have less of an infestation next summer,” Andre said. While not everyone is as knowledgeable about invasive plant life as Andre, a lot of the volunteers did understand the importance of Langston Golf Course. “Langston is an incredible place with an incredible history. It was where Black golfers who were displaced from a course around the Lincoln Memorial in the 1920s worked for 10 years to get a new course built at a time when D.C. was segregated,” McCartin said. Bianca Hill, who was one the volunteers, told WTOP that while she just took up the sport last year, Langston has been part of her family’s life for a long time. “My uncles were caddies here. I just appreciate the history of how my people have overcome and have this awesome course and opportunity for not just African Americans, but everybody to have affordable golf,” Hill said. Source

Akor Adams scores late double to save Sevilla from fifth consecutive defeat
MADRID (AP) — Akor Adams scored a second-half double, the second of which was a last-gasp penalty, to give Sevilla a 2-2 draw at home to Elche on Monday and stop it from recording a fifth consecutive loss. Sevilla came into the match having failed to score in its last four, and pressure on Argentine coach Matías Almeyda was mounting. The match quickly seemed to get away from it as Elche took the lead after 14 minutes, with Aleix Febas drilling a low shot into the bottom corner for only his second goal of the season. German Valera made it 2-0 early in the second half when he stroked home a low drive through a sea of legs after the ball was cleared from a corner kick. But Adams pulled his side back into the match 15 minutes from time when he showed quick reflexes to prod home from close range after the ball had come back off the post. Just back from the Africa Cup of Nations, the Nigeria international then secured the draw two minutes into stoppage time when he side-footed home a perfect penalty. Sevilla had also hit the woodwork twice. The result leaves it in 14th place on 21 points. Elche is eighth, one of four clubs on 24 points. ___ AP soccer: https://apnews.com/hub/soccer Source
