Chargers target Ravens coach to replace DC Jesse Minter who became HC in Baltimore

Jesse Minter left an opening in the Los Angeles Chargers coaching staff. Now, the team is looking at a Baltimore Ravens coordinator to replace him as he becomes said team's head coach. The Baltimore Ravens hired Jesse Minter as the head coach of the team, but now the Los Angeles Chargers are looking at the team to replace their defensive coordinator. A back and forth of coaches could be taking place here. Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that the Chargers have requested an interview with Ravens defensive coordinator Zach Orr to see if he is the chosen one to replace Minter as DC of the team. Minter literally just signed with the Ravens to become their head coach. Hence, Jim Harbaugh needs a new DC but looking at what Orr has done, one must question if this would be the right hire. It’s just an interview right now, but Orr’s reputation as DC is not precisely a top one. Orr arguably fumbled an elite defense in Baltimore Orr inherited a top defense from Mike Macdonald and he didn’t hold the standard, especially in his second year. The first year started very bad, but he managed to adjust in the second half of the season and ended as the best rushing defense, though also as the worst passing defense. Chargers have requested Ravens defensive coordinator Zach Orr to interview for their vacant DC job, per source. Orr spent the past two seasons in charge of Baltimore’s defense and previously worked alongside former Chargers DC Jesse Minter. Now that the Ravens have hired Minter… pic.twitter.com/DklHGD0v0W— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) January 23, 2026 In 2025, the Ravens ranked 30th in passing defense and 18th in points allowed. For the Chargers, going from Minter to Orr would look like a huge downgrade in terms of where each defense ranked. However, the Harbaughs always try to keep their people on staff, even to their demise sometimes. The Chargers can’t afford having a bad defense With Mike McDaniel poised to be the team’s offensive coordinator (unless he takes a HC job), the offense will enter a whole new dimension. Healthy and with McDaniel, the Chargers offense could be destined to be one of the best in the NFL, no doubt about it. However, having that, you must try to have an above average defense to be a complete roster with Super Bowl hopes. If not, then once again you fail to put on a Super Bowl team, and having Justin Herbert as your quarterback, Super Bowl is the goal.

Bills add a very surprising head coach candidate for Josh Allen in 2026

The Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen are still searching for their new head coach. A very intriguing name suddenly appeared on the list of options. The Buffalo Bills have added a very surprising name to their list of candidates to replace Sean McDermott as the team’s head coach. According to a report by Albert Breer, Mike McDaniel will have an interview following his tenure with the Miami Dolphins. “The Bills are interviewing new Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel for their head coaching job today, per source. McDaniel, of course, spent the last four years in the AFC East as Dolphins head coach. McDaniel will be Jim Harbaugh’s OC if he doesn’t land an HC job.” McDaniel failed in his attempt to take the Dolphins to the Super Bowl with Tua Tagovailoa as his franchise quarterback. As a result, owner Stephen Ross made the decision to move on, bringing in Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley to replace him. Bills and Josh Allen search for their next head coach Mike McDaniel is not the only name on the Buffalo Bills’ list of candidates. With Josh Allen heavily involved in the decision-making process, the interview schedule looks like this according to Adam Schefter. “Friday: Chargers OC Mike McDaniel. Saturday: Commanders run game coordinator Anthony Lynn, former Dolphins DC Anthony Weaver. Sunday: Jaguars OC Grant Udinski.” Josh Allen’s role to sign new Bills head coach Josh Allen will be a key figure in the Bills’ decision-making process for hiring a new head coach. Dianna Russini confirmed the important role the quarterback will have in the coming days. “Buffalo is making sure their best player, team leader, and face of the franchise is part of the hiring process. Josh Allen will have significant say on the next coach of the Buffalo Bills.”

Not the Reds: MLB insider names two teams as potential landing spots for Nick Castellanos in 2026

Nick Castellanos’ time in Philadelphia appears to be coming to an end, and a new report from Ken Rosenthal mentions two potential MLB teams where he could play next season with no mention of Cincinnati. Nick Castellanos appears all but destined to play for another team, with the only real question being when that move will happen. At the very least, there are two known possibilities for where he could land in 2026. Ken Rosenthal mentioned the Miami Marlins as one of those options following what looks like a partial exit from Philadelphia for the veteran outfielder. According to Rosenthal, Castellanos could also be a candidate for San Diego. “The Padres are looking for a right-handed bat, and they’re looking for one who will be inexpensive, has been taking ground balls and training some at first base, and it’s a position they’re trying to fill,” the MLB insider said. Castellanos has emerged as an option for the Padres because, as Rosenthal noted, San Diego previously evaluated Nolan Arenado as a potential first baseman but ultimately moved on due to the high cost. That opened the door for the Phillies outfielder to enter the conversation. Castellanos to Miami? While nothing is confirmed, and Rosenthal himself admits he’s not sure the Marlins would want to add him, Miami remains a possibility. “Miami is always another possibility. That’s where Castellanos is from, I’m sure he would love to go there. I don’t know if they would love to add him. It’s unknown to me,” Rosenthal said on Foul Territory. .@Ken_Rosenthal mentions the Padres first when asked about Nick Castellanos' future. Castellanos has been taking ground balls at 1B. Phillies want to get rid of him and San Diego is looking for a first baseman. How much of the $20 million will the Phillies be willing to pay?… pic.twitter.com/mwg1VzApjg— Talking Friars (@TalkingFriars) January 22, 2026 What Rosenthal does expect is that if the Phillies move on from Castellanos, they will likely absorb a significant portion of his salary, a point echoed by other insiders such as Bob Nightengale. Last season, Castellanos posted a .250 batting average with 137 hits, 17 home runs, and 72 RBIs. It’s also worth noting that on Dec. 5, 2025, a video posted on X by Luke Arcaini showed Castellanos saying he would be willing to play first base if a team needed him there. Then, on Jan. 20, his wife posted an Instagram story showing the outfielder taking ground balls.

David Stearns sends blunt message when asked if Mets now rule the NL East

People want to know just how much stronger the New York Mets are after several major moves on the market, and David Stearns felt the need to clarify the situation to avoid creating false expectations. David Stearns knows the team has drawn significant attention because of its recent market activity, especially the moves tied to Bo Bichette. But he recently made it clear that adding new players and completing trades does not automatically make the New York Mets the best team in the NL East. “Until we win a division, we can’t claim we’re at the top. We’ve got to keep going. We’ve got to keep working,” Stearns said recently. He added that the Mets will continue looking to add more players, but his message was also aimed at tempering inflated expectations. With Bichette’s arrival, the Mets are adding a proven bat and an infielder who could adapt to two or more positions depending on where manager Carlos Mendoza needs him next season. At the very least, that kind of flexibility gives the club a small edge with a new addition to the roster. When was the last time the Mets won the NL East? The Mets have not won an NL East division title since 2015. That reality explains Stearns’ urgency to see his team win the division and avoid having to go through the Wild Card round. That 2015 club finished the MLB regular season with a 90–72 record. At the time, the Mets were a very different organization. Sandy Alderson was the team’s general manager, and that NL East title ended a nearly 10-year drought without a division championship, the previous one coming in 2006. More than a decade has now passed since the Mets last won the NL East. While they field a stronger roster today, they failed to reach the postseason in 2025. Still, the situation is far from dire, and Stearns knows it, which is why he remains open to continuing to add talent to the roster.

NY Mets warn MLB about the team’s approach after landing Freddy Peralta and losing Cody Bellinger to the NY Yankees

The New York Mets landed Freddy Peralta but at the same time lost the bidding war for Cody Bellinger to the New York Yankees, but they still warned the MLB about what's coming. The New York Mets landed Freddy Peralta as the new ace on the team. However, they lost Cody Bellinger to the New York Yankees. Still, the team president sent a clear message of what’s next to come. The Mets’ President of baseball operations David Stearns made clear that the team is not done yet. “We’re always looking to improve the team. We will stay busy and keep in touch with the trade and free agent markets. As in terms of what’s next, I don’t know, but we will keep after it.” After landing Freddy Peralta, the team is not satisfied. Also, that might mean they are going for an outfielder, given that they lost to the Yankees on the Cody Bellinger deal. The fact is that they need to bolster their outfield despite landing Luis Robert Jr. The Mets have solved plenty of issues already By bringing Peralta, and recent revelations about their rotation, it’s safe to say that the pitching roster is ready to roll. By landing Bo Bichette and Jorge Polanco, the infield is solved. However, they have to see if these names can actually replace Pete Alonso’s output on the batting departure. Luis Robert Jr. #88 is the new outfielder of the New York Mets Still, the Mets are looking good. Luis Robert Jr. gives a solid option at center field and basically, they need one outfielder more to pair him with Robert and Juan Soto. That’s why Bellinger was important. Now, they’ll have to get a lesser yet still important name, or trust Tyrone Taylor. The Mets have turned this offseason around When the Mets lost Pete Alonso, Edwin Alvarez and traded Jeff McNeil, the offseason was not looking good at all. However, fast forward to now, and even if they missed Bellinger, the Mets are ones of the winners of this offseason. While other moves could still come, the fact is that the Mets turned it around already. The outfield and bullpen should be the priorities now, but the Mets look like firm contenders to make the playoffs and maybe even go deep in them.
