Hurricanes’ Brandon Bussi may have made the save of the year on Sabres’ Tage Thompson

The Carolina Hurricanes keep on rolling. On Sunday, they extended their winning streak to three games after taking care of business at Lenovo Center in Raleigh against the visiting Buffalo Sabres. Thanks in large part to the incredible performance between the pipes of goalie Brandon Bussi, the ‘Canes came away with a 2-1 victory. Bussi has been excellent for the Hurricanes in the 2025-26 NHL regular season, and he proved once again that he’s among the best in front of the net this campaign with the way he shut down Buffalo’s attack. He turned away 17 of 18 shots he faced against the Sabres, and one of the saves he made in the contest seems like a strong contender for the goal of the year. In the second quarter, Sabres star Tage Thompson got control of the puck inside the Hurricanes’ zone and immediately rushed toward the net. He made a quick pass before getting the puck back, looking primed to score a tie-breaking goal. But Bussi denied Thompson with a highlight glove save. Bussi also made an incredible stand in front of the net amid the desperate Buffalo attack in the final seconds of the contest. bussi bussed us down. he was in a flow state. you tip your cap then absolutely demolish whichever preds goalie goes tomorrow (please not Saros) pic.twitter.com/7E50UH3ExZ — Conor Hurley (@CHurls13) January 19, 2026 On the season, the history-making 27-year-old Bussi is 18-3-1 with a 2.25 goals against average and a .906 save percentage through 22 starts for the Hurricanes, who improved to 31-15-4 following their takedown of Buffalo. Heat’s Tyler Herro likely to miss entire five-game road trip after MRI results

With the Miami Heat earning a big win over the Oklahoma City Thunder last Saturday, the team enters a five-game West Coast road trip with a bunch of momentum, starting with Monday against Jimmy Butler and the Golden State Warriors. However, the Heat will be without Herro for the Warriors matchup, and he was scheduled to get an MRI on Sunday, with the results being concerning. According to Ira Winderman of The Sun Sentinel, Herro’s MRI results on his ribs, which made him miss the Thunder win, unveiled a costochondral issue. It’s described as an “ailment that often is a matter of pain tolerance, but can be highly painful,” with Herro not expected to join the team on the five-game road trip. It has already been a frustrating season for the Miami guard, as, including the likelihood of the road trip, he will have missed 36 games this season. This includes the first 17 contests of the season missed with an offseason ankle surgery, then missing more significant time with a toe contusion, and now dealing with a rib issue. Tyler Herro’s injury is not thought to be long-term for the Heat Sam Navarro-Imagn Images Though the Heat are looking to capitalize on the win over the Thunder, not having Herro has been a relative constant this season, with the number of games he’s missed. Playing in 11 games so far, Herro has averaged 21.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game while shooting 49.7 percent from the field and 35.8 percent from three-point range. Miami head coach Erik Spoelstra spoke about Herro’s frustrating season, coming off an All-Star year prior, even saying that this injury isn’t “long-term.” “I mean, the one at the beginning of the year, that was just something coming into the season,” Spoelstra said about Herro’s injury-riddled season before the contest vs. Oklahoma City. “You can’t control that, but there’s going to be daily stuff that happens with everybody. We can’t necessarily look at, because you missed a big part of the first year that you’re going to have your normal things that happen in an NBA season. This shouldn’t be long-term, and we’ll just continue to treat him and see how he responds.” Erik Spoelstra is asked about Tyler Herro missing his 31st game tonight, asked if there comes to a point where the team moves forward with alternate paths: “This shouldn't be long term. We'll just continue to treat him and see how he responds." Full answer: #HeatNation pic.twitter.com/OObbnq0QJa — Zachary Weinberger (@ZachWeinberger) January 17, 2026 At any rate, it remains to be seen how much time Herro misses, but there is no denying the frustration as his injury woes continue. Miami is 22-20 ahead of the five-game road trip that starts Monday against the Warriors. Novak Djokovic joins Roger Federer in history after Australian Open opening-round win

There is no getting around the fact that Novak Djokovic is one of the most influential tennis players ever. In fact, he belongs to the same company as other legends who came before, such as Roger Federer. On Monday, Djokovic did just that when he became the 2nd player in open era history to win 100+ singles matches at the Australian Open, per OptaAce. Federer holds the 1st place position with 102 wins. Additionally, Djokovic became the first player to achieve this feat across three different Grand Slam tournaments. It came after he defeated Pedro Martinez of Spain in three straight sets (6-3, 6-2, 6-2). Altogether, Djokovic has 101 ATP tour-level singles titles in addition to 24 Grand Slam titles. Among those titles are ten Australian Open wins. Additionally, he has seven Wimbledons, four US Open titles, and three French Open titles. He has become one of the record-setting players of his era, including holding the record for most weeks at No. 1 (428). Plus, Djokovic is an Olympic gold medal winner in singles from the 2024 Paris Games. He also won a bronze medal at the 2008 Games in Beijing. Last August, Djokovic matched Federer with his 191st singles win on hard court, the most of any player on that surface in the open era. Federer achieved 1,251 singles wins over the course of a 24-year professional career. He won six Australian Open singles titles (2004, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2017, and 2018). Additionally, Federer won eight Wimbledon singles titles (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2012, and 2017). He also won the 2009 French Open and won five US Open titles (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008). In 2022, Federer officially retired from tennis. On Tuesday, Djokovic will play against Italy’s Francesco Maestrelli in the second round. NFL Divisional Round Winners and Losers: Seahawks dominate, Bears run out of miracles

Just four teams remain in the NFL playoffs as conference championship week is upon us. Divisional Round weekend is one of the best weeks of the year, and it delivered once again on Saturday and Sunday with four games that had just about everything. To start the weekend off, the Broncos escaped the Bills at Mile High 33-30 in overtime thanks to five Buffalo turnovers. The game had plenty of lasting ramifications, as Bo Nix was knocked out for the rest of the playoffs due to an ankle injury and the Bills fired head coach Sean McDermott after missing another opportunity to get to the Super Bowl. Late on Saturday night, Rashid Shaheed started Seahawks-49ers with a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown on the way to a 41-6 Seattle victory before the Patriots and Rams punched their tickets to championship weekend with wins on Sunday. Who were the big winners and losers from Divisional weekend? Let’s get into the list. Winner: The Seahawks are the team to beat Steven Bisig-Imagn Images The Seahawks came into the weekend as the biggest favorite on the board, in part because they are a rested and ready No. 1 seed and in part because the 49ers came into the game with a historically long list of injuries. In Week 18, with the top seed and the NFC West on the line, Seattle stifled this same Niners team 13-3 in Santa Clara. On Saturday night, it quickly became clear that things were going to get worse before they got better for Kyle Shanahan and company. Shaheed’s kickoff return got the Seahawks in front right off the bat, and the 49ers’ first two series ended with a turnover on downs and a fumble. Kenneth Walker went over 100 yards and scored three touchdowns, Sam Darnold appeared no worse for wear despite his mysterious oblique injury, and Seattle’s defense ran it up to eight consecutive quarters keeping this explosive San Francisco offense out of the end zone in a 41-6 win. Seattle will get to stay home again in the NFC Championship Game, and it’s going to take a heck of an effort to take Mike Macdonald and company down. Loser: The Bears run out of miracles © David Banks-Imagn Images The Bears have made magic all season to capture the NFC North title and the No. 2 seed in Ben Johnson’s first season as head coach, and they pulled off their best Houdini act yet in the Wild Card Round to beat the Packers after trailing 21-3. On Sunday, after a surprisingly low-scoring game against the Rams in the cold at Soldier Field, the Bears needed one more miracle to keep their season alive on fourth-and-4 with less than a minute to go. Caleb Williams, as he has done all season, came up with the goods and tossed one of the best touchdown passes you’ll ever see to Cole Kmet to tie the game. OH MY, CALEB WILLIAMS LAUNCHES IT ON FOURTH DOWN pic.twitter.com/J8FWTHegHh — ClutchPoints (@ClutchPoints) January 19, 2026 Ben Johnson chose to kick the extra point and head to overtime instead of going for two and the win, and the Bears unfortunately ran out of miracles in overtime. After the defense got one more stop, a miscommunication between Williams and DJ Moore resulted in an interception, and the Rams drove down and won on a Harrison Mevis field goal late in overtime. Chicago still has plenty to feel good about coming out of this season heading into year two of Johnson and year three of Williams, but this is a tough loss to take in the moment considering the opportunities they created to advance. Winner: The Broncos find a way again Credit: Ron Chenoy-Imagn Images The Broncos, in similar fashion to the Bears, have also squeaked out win after win at the end of games all season, finishing as the No. 1 seed in the AFC and earning a home game in the Divisional Round. Still, Denver came into the day as an underdog against the No. 6-seeded Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen. Allen had plenty of moments, both good and bad, in this game, and the Bills ran the ball well throughout the day. However, Sean Payton put together some good drives early on, Bo Nix put together…

Yes, the Denver Broncos had a major downer during their game against the Bills. But Wil Lutz still delivered in crunch time. And Talanoa Hufanga had an immediate reaction to Lutz’s game-winning kick against the Bills in the Divisional Round. Lutz’s overtime boot of 23 yards gave the Broncos a hard-earned 33-30 win over the Bills. And Hufanga said, “This is why I came,” according to a post on X by NFL Films. "This is why I came."@TalanoaHufanga's reaction to the @Broncos advancing pic.twitter.com/fYGjaXyxxB — NFL Films (@NFLFilms) January 19, 2026 Hufanga, who signed with the Broncos after four seasons with the 49ers, played a key defensive role in the win. He totaled 10 tackles, including seven solo efforts. Broncos safety Talanoa Hufanga is a difference-maker For the season, Hufanga was chosen as a second-team member of the All-Pro team. He started all 17 games and totaled 106 tackles with a career-high six for loss. He also added three quarterback hits and defended 11 passes. Hufanga said his goal in coming to Denver revolved around getting a ring. He said he didn’t worry about the Pro Bowl snub, according to the Denver Post. “At the end of the day it’s like — we got bigger goals, too,” Hufanga said. “And, yeah, (the Pro Bowl) could be incentive-based to some people. Like, some people are truly — I’ve played with some guys that it’s like, ‘I lost money!’ But nah. That’s not me. “I’m here to play the game. To win a ring.” Hufanga earned a Pro Bowl spot with the 49ers. That came in 2022, the only other year in which he has played in all 17 games. He made it through 10 games in 2023 and only seven in 2024. But while it seems like the 49ers annually have more injuries than most teams, Hufanga found good health again in Denver. Maybe it’s the altitude. But whatever the case, Hufanga had a chance to help the Broncos return to the Super Bowl. They will have to get past the Patriots, and will have to do it without Nix. He injured his ankle in the win over the Bills and will miss the rest of the postseason.
