The Ultimate 2025 Physical Media Gift Guide (Blu-Ray, 4K UHD)
With the news being all about streaming and deals amonst streaming companies, there are tons of people out there who still enjoy their movies and TV in a physical form. After all, they can’t change a disc once its pressed and on your shelf. 2025 has been a landmark year for physical media fans with plenty of great releases across the board. We documented some of those great releases with our Top 10 Physical Media Releases of 2025. But this is a gift guide, just in case you’re looking to do some shopping for that physical media fan in your life, or you’re trying to get into the hobby of collecting and watching physical media. So without further ado, let’s start it off right. None of the links in this article are affiliate links. Go Big Or Go Home – Panasonic UB820 4K UHD Player Yes, this is a media player that is over $500 (it’s on sale right now for $470). However, you will never need to buy another media player after this one. This is the top of the line, best possible 4K UHD player that money can buy. It doesn’t just play 4K discs though. This is also a magnificent player for upscaling Blu-rays and DVDs, so that the other corners of your physical media collection will always look their best. It has Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support with 7.1 analog audio outputs. This is the best player you can get for the money. You can grab this one on Amazon. Sinners – 4K UHD (Warner Bros. Home Entertainment) Sinners was already going to be among the best movies of 2025 when it was released in April. Now that we have the physical 4K in our hands, this release shows that Warner Bros. Home Entertainment still has some tricks up their sleeve. This is about as close to a must-have release from a studio as there is this year. The visuals, combined with an excellent Dolby Atmos track, make for a real test of your home video systems. Grab this one from Amazon or wherever you get your Physical Media. Dogma 4K UHD (Lionsgate Home Entertainment) Dogma has been a wild ride to get to this 4K UHD. It’s the newest release on the list, but it’s an impactful one. This new release from Lionsgate is for the 25th anniversary of the film and is packed to the gills with extras. Here’s the synopsis from Lionsgate: Kevin Smith’s Dogma, presented in immaculate 4K for the first time, focuses on angels Bartleby (Ben Affleck) and Loki (Matt Damon) — tossed out of Heaven, exiled to Wisconsin, and pilgrimaging to a cardinal’s (George Carlin) “Buddy Christ” New Jersey church. The crafty angels plan to exploit a divine loophole once they arrive that will facilitate their heavenly return. But their gambit’s success has a downside: the end of God…and the universe! Aiding and bedeviling Bartleby and Loki are Salma Hayek as Serendipity, the stripper muse; Chris Rock as Rufus, the 13th apostle; Alan Rickman as the seraph Metatron; Jay and Silent Bob (Smith, Jason Mewes) as irreverent prophets; and Alanis Morissette as God herself. Grab it from Amazon or wherever you get your Physical Media. Hard Boiled 4K (Shout! Factory) Now for something that we didn’t think was even possible going into the year. Shout! Factory forked over a good amount of money for the license to Golden Princess Films library and this was the crown jewel of that deal. Hard Boiled is one of the most legendary action films ever directed by John Woo. This release was a dream come true for fans of the film that now no longer have to watch it on some crappy bootleg copy. The 4K transfer here is stunning, showing off just what the format of 4K UHD can do for an older movie like this. The special features included are top-notch as well, giving you hours of extra content to go through when the movie is over with. Grab this one directly from Shout! Factory at GRUV. Chain Reactions Chain Reactions was one of my favorite documentaries of the year and for fans of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, it’s one of the most impressive releases of the year. Here’s a synopsis of the release: Fifty years after Tobe Hooper’s THE…
