Browns coaching search: Cleveland has competition for their candidates
The Cleveland Browns head coach search moves into its second phase, with at least one addition now required for the process. The team has completed or set up second interviews with five candidates: Monday – Jim Schwartz – Confirmed by team Tuesday – Todd Monken – Confirmed by team Thursday – Jesse Minter Friday – Grant Udinski Next week – Nate Scheelhaase There are six teams left with head coaching openings and a large number of others who are on the lookout for coordinators. At one point, the Browns were the only ones to set up interviews with Grant Udinski and Nate Scheelhaase, but new teams entering the market have added competition. Now, all five head coach search candidates in Cleveland have other teams seeking their services or at least interviewing them for jobs: Jim Schwartz – Has interviewed for the Baltimore Ravens head coach position Todd Monken – Will be the New York Giants offensive coordinator if he doesn’t get the Browns head job Jesse Minter – Has had requests for or interviewed for the top job with the Arizona Cardinals, Las Vegas Raiders, Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Ravens Grant Udinski – The Buffalo Bills have requested to interview Udinski for their head coach search Nate Scheelhaase – Has interviewed with the Ravens, Raiders, and Steelers Schwartz is not believed to be a finalist in Baltimore, but the organization is not freely sharing its plans. Monken does not have another head coaching interview at this point, so both veteran coaches would likely jump at the job if the Browns were to offer. Minter is considered a finalist for the Ravens and Raiders, the Bills have QB Josh Allen to entice the young Udinski, and Scheelhaase reportedly impressed the Steelers significantly. Competition aplenty for the Browns as their head coach search marches on.
