Many backup quarterbacks quietly drift off down the lazy river of free agency during the offseason, but not Malik Willis, who’s proven himself worthy of competing for starting reps somewhere. In fact, he’s become one of the more buzzed-about quarterback names on the market. After shining in spot duty with the Green Bay Packers these past couple of seasons, NFL observers expect teams with QB needs to show serious interest. First up: the Miami Dolphins. Linked frequently to Willis by insiders, Miami has coaching and front-office continuity from Green Bay — with new HC Jeff Hafley and GM Jon-Eric Sullivan both familiar with Willis’ strengths. That familiarity could make Miami eager to tap his dual-threat athleticism as they navigate uncertainty at quarterback. Another team rumored to be showing interest is the Pittsburgh Steelers. Their void at quarterback — compounded by the recent (and rare) shakeup at head coach — makes Willis an intriguing potential starter or bridge option.  Then there’s the New York Jets, who have draft capital and a clear need for a dynamic playmaker under center. Whichever destination he lands on, the buzz is clear: Malik Willis has earned the chance to compete for meaningful snaps — and several franchises seem at least be interested in trying to bring him in. Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Micah Parsons has been named a finalist for the Associated Press NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Despite playing just 14 games this season, Parsons still made a noticeable impact as one of the best defenders in the league since being traded from the Dallas Cowboys back in August. This is Parsons’ 4th time being named a finalist for AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year in his first 5 seasons and tops off a season of accolades after he was voted first-team All-Pro and earned his fifth-consecutive Pro Bowl nomination earlier this month. Parsons is the only NFL player since 1982 to register 12+ sacks in each of his first 5 NFL seasons, according to Wes Hodkiewicz of Packers.com. Parsons’ 65 sacks are also the fifth-most sacks by a player in the first five years of their career. The winners will be announced at the NFL Honors ceremony on Thursday, February 5, in San Francisco ahead of the Super Bowl.
