San Francisco 49ers lose Robert Saleh to Titans after blowout loss to Seahawks
The San Francisco 49ers will be in need of a new defensive coordinator for a fourth consecutive year. With the 49ers now out of the playoffs following their 41-6 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Divisional Round, it didn’t take long for Robert Saleh to find his second head coaching job. He’s set to head back to the AFC to coach the Tennessee Titans. BREAKING: The #Titans are hiring #49ers DC Robert Saleh as their new head coach, sources tell me.A true leader of men is what Tennessee wanted, and Saleh will team up with Cam Ward as the future of the franchise. pic.twitter.com/m0QL2cm8ln— Jordan Schultz (@Schultz_Report) January 20, 2026 Saleh coached the New York Jets from 2021 to 2024, which didn’t go too well but nothing ever seems to go well for the Jets these days. He was the 49ers’ defensive coordinator from 2017-2020 under Kyle Shanahan, but his Super Bowl ring comes courtesy of his time as a defensive quality control coach with the Seattle Seahawks. Beyond this news meaning that Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak has one less possible head coach destination (although he never interviewed with the Titans, in fairness), it’s another offseason where the 49ers need a new DC. When Saleh left, Shanahan picked DeMeco Ryans, which went so well that he became the Houston Texans head coach in 2023. After the 49ers lost again to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl, Shanahan canned Steve Wilks and replaced him with Nick Sorensen in 2024. Sorensen wasn’t getting the job done, which led to his departure to make way for the returning Saleh. Former Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley is on the 49ers staff as assistant head coach and could be an internal option, but for chaos reasons it’d be funny if they just gave former Seahawks linebacker a big promotion from defensive quality control coach.

Seahawks fan discussion: Indiana vs. Miami CFP National Championship game
The NFL’s Divisional Round is complete, and now the Conference Championship weekend awaits for the Seattle Seahawks and three other teams. In the meantime, the College Football Playoff will crown its second national champion of the 12-team era in Miami on Monday night. In a statement few barely believed could ever happen, the Indiana Hoosiers are the undisputed best team in the country and have the best quarterback in college football. Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza is from Miami and gets to return home for the wonderful opportunity of sealing Indiana’s first ever national title. Curt Cignetti’s group smashed Alabama and Oregon back-to-back to make it here are the lone unbeaten squad in FBS. Indiana is more than just Mendoza, as left tackle Carter Smith, cornerback D’Angelo Ponds, safety Louis Moore, defensive tackle Tyrique Tucker, and linebacker Aiden Fisher are all All-Americans. Wide receivers Elijah Sarratt and Omar Cooper Jr. are also worth watching, too. The No. 10 seeded Miami Hurricanes get to have a home championship game in what is otherwise a neutral site venue. Their inclusion in the playoff was subject to controversy and a lot of whining from Notre Dame, who lost to Miami in Week 1. The Hurricanes could’ve folded up after defeats to SMU and Louisville, but they’ve run the table since then behind Georgia transfer Carson Beck at quarterback, star receiver Malachi Toney, running back Mark Fletcher, a strong offensive line, and a vaunted pass rushing duo of Rueben Bain and Akheem Mesidor. Can Mario Cristobal bring the national championship back to The U for the first time since 2001? They will be considerable underdogs tonight. If you want to review some possible Seahawks draft prospects, check out Michael Thompson’s article in the link below as an accompanying guide. Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit will take you through this game on ESPN at 7:30 pm ET/4:30 pm PT. There are alternate broadcasts on ESPN2 and a bunch of other streaming and television channels, so you’re spoiled for choice as far as options. Doesn’t it feel good to watch college football as a Seahawks fan and not be eyeing quarterbacks to draft? Join the conversation!
