Miami Heat’s Bam Adebayo Named Eastern Conference Player of the Week
Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo became the first Heat player this season to be named Eastern Conference Player of the Week.Adebayo, who is coming off one of his best weeks of the season, averaged 27 points, 8.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game over three games this week.Adebayo entered the week coming off one of the worst shooting slumps of his career, but snapped out of it with 29 points on 11-15 shooting against the Phoenix Suns on January 13.Following his most recent performance, a 30 point 12 rebound game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Adebayo made a statement against people criticizing his offensive ability.“I don’t care about what anybody says about me offensively,” Adebayo said. “They’re gonna move the goal posts for me every night. I don’t shoot enough, I’m not being aggressive, shooting too much, it’s the wrong shot diet. So my teammates, my coaching staff, they know what I’m capable of. Obviously, every shot that I take, I work on all the time, and Spo (Spoelstra) knows that. Spo sees it.”Adebayo became the first Heat player since Tyler Herro in December 2024 to be named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week. It’s Adebayo’s third time winning the award. He was also named the POTW in January 2024 and December 2019.The Miami Heat Succeed When Bam Adebayo is Dominant on OffenseBam Adebayo is considered the heart and soul of this Miami Heat basketball team. He’s the longest-tenured player on the roster, having been with the team since they drafted him in 2017. Adebayo is averaging his season low in points per game since the 2020-2021 season, but his impact still looms large.Adebayo is third on the team in plus/minus with a +115 on the season. Additionally, the Heat win more games when he’s consistently scoring. This season, the Heat are 12-7 when he scores more than 16 points in a game. His impact as a defender is important, but his impact on offense is what makes the difference between a win and a loss for the Heat.Adebayo has been able to consistently score over the past three games, making 13 threes over a three-game stretch. Jets Mock Draft Lands Elite Playmakers on Offense and Defense
The New York Jets, armed with two top-16 picks in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, are uniquely positioned to turn the franchise around. With Dante Moore heading back to Oregon for another season of college football, there likely won’t be a quarterback rated high enough for the Jets to pull the trigger on a new starter at No. 2, but that doesn’t mean they can’t find playmakers and add talent to their offense and defense. In the latest mock draft from Pro Football Focus, Gordon McGuinness has New York doing just that with their two premium draft selections.Jets Select Texas Tech Edge David Bailey No. 2 OverallMcGuinness’ first selection for the New York Jets is Texas Tech defensive end David Bailey, one of college football’s most dominant defenders this past season.“The news that quarterback Dante Moore is staying at Oregon for another season is a blow to the Jets, who could have either selected him at No. 2 overall or traded the pick for serious draft capital,” wrote McGuinness.“With Moore off the board, the most logical route would be to target one of the top defensive players in the draft. Bailey’s 81 quarterback pressures in 2025 led all FBS edge defenders, and while he’s not as refined a prospect as Penn State’s Abdul Carter was last year, he is more than good enough as a pass rusher to be worthy of a top-five selection.”After Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza presumably goes No. 1 overall to the Las Vegas Raiders, the real draft begins with the Jets at No. 2.They’ll have several avenues available to them in terms of high-end defenders, such as Miami’s Reuben Bain Jr. or Ohio State’s Arvell Reese, but Bailey could be the best of the bunch. David Bailey against a tackle on an island – nightmare — Connor Rogers (@ConnorJRogers) January 1, 2026 ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper has Bailey as the fifth-highest rated prospect on his big board.“A transfer from Stanford, Bailey gets after the quarterback. He had 14.5 sacks over three seasons for the Cardinals, and he matched that total in 2025 alone after notably becoming more of a finisher this season,” said Kiper. His 20.2% pressure rate was the best in the nation — despite actually being lower than it was in 2024 (22.2%) and 2023 (22.1%).”With New York finishing with the 31st-least amount of sacks in the league in 2025, Bailey would be a welcome addition to their defensive line room.Jets Select Washington WR Denzel Boston No. 16 OverallWith their second first-round selection thanks to the Indianapolis Colts and Sauce Gardner, the New York Jets select Washington wide receiver Denzel Boston to improve their group of pass-catchers.“With the Jets likely to look to free agency or the trade market to fix their quarterback situation, finding the right players for their offense in the draft becomes even more important,” continued McGuinness.“Boston could be the perfect partner for Garrett Wilson at wide receiver, coming off a season in which he earned an 89.3 PFF receiving grade against man coverage and caught 76.9% of his contested targets.”Garrett Wilson was the Jets’ leading receiver in yards for the 2025 season, and his last reception came in Week 6 against the Denver Broncos. That is simply unacceptable, and while it’s easy to point to the quarterback play as the reason why, New York did nothing to add to their wide receiver room before the season, outside of adding Josh Reynolds and forcing Allen Lazard to take a pay cut.Adonai Mitchell and John Metchie, midseason acquisitions, showed some signs of life during the backend of the 2025 season, but I’m not sure you can count on either to be a legitimate threat across from Wilson on a down-to-down basis. That’s where Boston comes in. Another situation where Denzel Boston is in 1-1 coverage and the team trusts him to make the big play. His film is littered with 50/50 ball wins and impressive ability to work the boundary with his body control. Bears QB Caleb Williams reflects on fatal overtime miscommunication with DJ Moore
The Chicago Bears lost the NFC Divisional Round game vs. the Los Angeles Rams in heartbreaking fashion. They were a single completion away from attempting a game-winning field goal. Facing a 2nd-and-8 at the Rams’ 48, Bears quarterback Caleb Williams threw his third interception of the game. Los Angeles proceeded to move the ball down the field and kick the game-winning field goal themselves. But all of the talk in Chicago has been about the misconnection between Williams and Moore. On Monday, the Bears’ quarterback opened up about what went wrong on that fateful play, per ESPN’s Courtney Cronin. “Small things like that that show up in those moments that you may not have talked about, being on the same page, maybe you talked about it in Week 1 or Week 6, and it shows up in [Week 20],” Williams said. This one will hurt for a bit. Caleb Williams said postgame that he thought DJ Moore would flatten his route on the OT pick. There was a ton of space and it likely would’ve been the kill shot from the Bears. pic.twitter.com/gZ00kgfnT0 — Depressed Bears Fan (@DepBearsFan) January 19, 2026 “You know, it’s something to learn from for myself, a learning experience, it’s something for us to learn from as an offense and as a team. We’ll go do that at some time.” Following the loss, Williams acknowledged that he thought Moore was going to flatten the route. That would have brought him more across the field and not as deep. Instead, he continued the post pattern, while Rams cornerback Kam Curl made a diving play on the ball. Fans and television pundits were quick to criticize Moore for seemingly giving up on the play. Nevertheless, it was a hugely successful season for the Bears. The Ben Johnson hire seems to have worked overnight, and Williams took a massive step forward in his second year in the NFL. The future is bright in Chicago for the first time in a very long time. The post Bears QB Caleb Williams reflects on fatal overtime miscommunication with DJ Moore appeared first on ClutchPoints.

Gable Steveson faces make-or-break moment against MMA veteran Hugo Lezama
Gable Steveson has done something no American before him has accomplished — winning Olympic gold in wrestling at just 20 years old. Since transitioning to MMA, the 25-year-old phenom has been even more ruthless, dismantling every opponent in devastating fashion. Now, at Mexico Fight League 3, Steveson enters uncharted waters against “Pandamonio” Lezama, a battle-tested veteran who represents the first real adversity of his fighting career. View this post on Instagram A post shared by MFL (@fightmfl) With a spotless 2-0 record, Steveson hasn’t just won his MMA fights — he’s obliterated them. Both victories came via knockout, finished in a staggering combined 2:02. Even more impressive, the Jon Jones protégé added a Dirty Boxing victory to his résumé in just 15 seconds, accomplishing three professional fights in a compressed 10-week span. The hype surrounding Steveson isn’t manufactured; it’s earned through explosive performances that have left analysts scrambling for comparisons. Lezama arrives as an 11-3 professional with championship pedigree. The Mexican heavyweight successfully defended the Budo Sento Championship title as recently as November 2024, proving he operates at an elite level in his region. What makes Lezama particularly dangerous is his finishing ability—nine of his 11 victories came by stoppage, including five devastating knockouts and four submissions. He’s not just experienced; he’s proven he can end fights decisively. This matchup sits at a critical inflection point in Steveson’s career arc. His knockout power and wrestling credentials are undeniable, but Lezama represents the first real test against a durable, technical opponent with legitimate championship experience. The Showcenter Complex won’t be some anonymized fight gym; it’ll be Lezama’s backyard, adding another layer of complexity. For Steveson, a dominant victory cements the narrative of a generational talent progressing naturally through the ranks. A loss or even a narrow win forces a recalibration of expectations. Either way, when Mexico Fight League 3 streams live on YouTube, the MMA world will be watching closely. Steveson came to the sport with extraordinary advantages. Now he proves whether they translate against legitimate opposition. The post Gable Steveson faces make-or-break moment against MMA veteran Hugo Lezama appeared first on ClutchPoints.
