Denver Broncos coaches being poached? Vance Joseph, Davis Webb, Jim Leonhard interviewing
Denver Broncos coaches are interviewing all across the NFL. Those include Vance Joseph, who has the most head coaching interviews, Davis Webb and Darren Rizzi also interviewing as potential head coaches, and Jim Leonhard earning a coordinator interview. The downside of the Broncos being a great team is their coaches may get poached. Four Denver Broncos coaches interviewing for open vacancies on other teams Vance Joseph, Davis Webb, Darren Rizzi, and Jim Leonhard are all up for new jobs and promotions in their own right. Joseph, who has head coaching experience with the Broncos and Arizona Cardinals, is one of the hottest commodities right now when it comes to vacant positions. He’s lined up interviews with six different teams, including his former Cardinals. Vance Joseph’s head coaching interviews include: Arizona Cardinals New York Giants Las Vegas Raiders Tennessee Titans Baltimore Ravens Atlanta Falcons He’s already met with the Giants, Raiders, Titans, Ravens, and Cardinals with the Falcons still on his possible new suitors list. Obviously, it would be a step back up to that head coaching rank for the well-established and successful defensive coordinator of the Broncos. Since rejoining Denver in 2023, the defense went from 27th in scoring to 3rd the last two years in a row. Not only that, but Joseph has consistently shown he can dial up pressure without sending blitzes at an inordinate rate. Denver led the NFL in sacks in 2024 (63.0) to establish a new team-record, and then obliterated that record this year with 68.0 sacks on the season. Joseph’s defense is also extremely difficult to score on once inside the red zone. Denver was 3rd (46.9%) last year, and 1st (42.6%) this season in red zone defense. They also improved on 3rd down defense from 11th (37.3%) to 2nd (33.8%) this season. Losing Joseph would be detrimental for Denver because this has been a defense-first team the last two years in a row. That daunting defense has led the Broncos to the playoffs both seasons, and Joseph’s play calling and leadership are big reasons why. Some believe if he’s hired away from one of those six teams, that Leonhard would be next in line as the Broncos defensive coordinator. Meanwhile, he’s being interviewed by the Dallas Cowboys for their open DC position. Leonhard has been the Broncos defensive pass game coordinator the last two seasons, and he has Pat Surtain earning Defensive Player of the Year on his resume. Depending on what happens with Joseph, Leonhard may be able to leverage that Cowboys offer against the Broncos and not only get promoted but a big time payday. Davis Webb interviewing with three teams, Darren Rizzi with one Davis Webb is another Denver Broncos coach interviewing with other teams for open positions. At only 31 years old, the Las Vegas Raiders, Baltimore Ravens, and New York Giants want to interview him as a head coach. Webb is the offensive pass game coordinator/QBs coach, and he’s worked closely with Bo Nix in the young quarterback’s first two seasons in the league. “He’s always prepared me extremely well, especially from the get-go,” Nix said of Webb. “He played the position and knows what it’s like to walk into a game. He prepares me on a very good level and we’re always ready for the task at hand.” Webb’s been around a ton of great quarterbacks both as a player and a coach. He backed up both Baker Mayfield and Patrick Mahomes at Texas Tech, and backed up Josh Allen with the Bills, too. In fact, the Bills wanted him to be their QBs coach when he was there while he was still a player according to the Ravens website. He played for the Giants, too, which may be one reason they’re interested in interviewing him. Meanwhile, according to Raiders Beat, Webb’s interview with the rival Raiders was “phenomenal.” Finally, Rizzi, the Broncos special teams coach, is interviewing with the Giants. Last year, Denver and Sean Payton lost coaches Declan Doyle, John Morton, and Chris Banjo to other teams, and it looks like…
