The Toronto Maple Leafs are coming in off a 4-3 overtime victory over the Winnipeg Jets. They did not have William Nylander in the victory, as Nylander was injured in the loss to the Vegas Golden Knights last Thursday. On Monday, head coach Craig Berube gave an update on the star. “I don’t know how long the timeline will be for him. When he feels good enough to get on the ice, and he goes out there and skates, and feels good, I expect him to be back fairly quick then. Until then, I’m not sure when he’s going to be on the ice,” Berube said on Monday, according to Jeremy Tingly of NHL Trade Rumors. This is an injury that Nylander has been dealing with much of the season, missing eight games total this season. This is a major loss for the Leafs. The Canadian has 17 goals and leads the team with 31 assists. That gives him a team high of 48 total points. “It’s obviously bothering him a lot, for quite some time, and hasn’t really got much better. Other than whether he gets some breaks, Christmas time, he comes back and feels better. It’s an ongoing issue,” Berube added. This is also a major stretch of games for the Maple Leafs as they try to get back into the playoff race. The team will play the next five games at home, facing the Minnesota Wild, Detroit Red Wings, Golden Knights, Colorado Avalanche, and Buffalo Sabres. All five of them are currently in playoff positions, with the Sabres being directly in front of the Maple Leafs in the Eastern Conference. Toronto is 24-16-8 this season, which is currently sixth in the Atlantic Division. They are just one point behind the Sabres for the final wild card spot and two points behind the Boston Bruins. Golden State Warriors veteran Draymond Green has been downgraded for Monday’s matchup against the Miami Heat. After Green had words for Knicks’ Karl-Anthony Towns after the Warriors’ 126-113 win, he could miss facing the Heat, as Golden State will look to stretch its winning streak to four. Green is dealing with a right ankle sprain, which could force the Warriors to sit him against the Heat, per ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel. “The Warriors have downgraded Draymond Green to questionable for tonight’s game against the Heat due to a right ankle sprain,” Siegel reported. As there have been reports that the Miami Dolphins’ front-runner for its new head coach would be Jeff Hafley, the defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers, it looks like a deal is about to be made to make it official. After the Dolphins fired Mike McDaniel, the team went through a search for its next head coach under new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan, with Hafley standing out from the rest. According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, Miami is “closing in on a deal” to hire Hafley. “The Dolphins are closing in on a deal to hire Jeff Hafley as their head coach, sources tell The Insiders,” Pelissero wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “Hafley, 46, impressed as the Packers’ defensive coordinator the past two seasons after a stint as Boston College HC. One of the most highly-anticipated trades of the 2025-26 NHL season got over the finish line on Sunday, with Rasmus Andersson being shipped to the first place he was ever linked to — the Vegas Golden Knights. The Swedish defenseman has been a heart and soul player for the Calgary Flames since being selected by the franchise in the second round back in 2015, but over a decade later, he’s headed to the strip. The Knights certainly gave up a lot in their quest to create one of the most dominant blue lines in professional hockey. That includes Zach Whitecloud, who has spent his entire career in Nevada, along with prospect Abram Weibe, a first-round draft pick in 2027, and a second — that becomes a first if Vegas wins the Stanley Cup this season. It’s a swap that at first glance looks like it will benefit both organizations. Andersson will get an opportunity to chase a championship, and it’s expected that he’ll sign a long-term extension with his new team. Meanwhile, Flames GM Craig Conroy recouped some serious draft capital as he looks to build a contender in the near future. For those keeping track, that’s the third legitimate blockbuster trade of the campaign. Tristan Jarry and Stuart Skinner changed squads in early December, and Quinn Hughes got sent to the Minnesota Wild on that same Friday. Over the weekend, a new workout video featuring Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum began making the rounds across social media. The video, shot by Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe, showed Tatum looking a little like his old self before being sidelined by an Achilles injury. The video grabbed Celtics fans’ attention, and even Derrick White had to comment on it, as per Himmelsbach. “It’s been amazing to see,” White said. “Obviously all the work that he’s put in, and you just kind of see him being around more and being able to do more, and that’s exciting to see, as a friend. Every day he’s been working hard, and it’s good to see that hard work add to more movement and more opportunity.” “You know he doesn’t want to watch,” White continued. “He wants to get out there and play. But he’s been amazing just supporting. Every game just having him over there has been a lot of fun. I have no idea exactly what the timeline is or how he’s doing, but it’s just good to see him moving around and just supporting us.” Jayson Tatum initially suffered the Achilles injury during the Celtics’ playoff series against the New York Knicks last season. While he’s seemingly making progress in his rehab, there has been no definitive word on whether or not he will play this season. Without Tatum, however, the Celtics have defied expectations. They are currently the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference standings, behind an MVP caliber season from Jaylen Brown, who was just named a starter for the 2026 NBA All-Star Game. During last season’s before Tatum got hurt, he was averaging 28.1 points, 11.5 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 2.1 steals with splits of 42.3 percent shooting from the field, 37.2 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 88.9 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
