    La FIFA a publié ce lundi 19 janvier 2026 la mise à jour de son classement mondial, au lendemain de la finale de la CAN 2025. Cette nouvelle hiérarchie offre un aperçu précis de la position actuelle des sélections africaines sur la scène internationale.   Sacré champion d’Afrique, le Sénégal progresse pour atteindre la 12e position mondiale, totalisant 1 706,83 points. Le Maroc s’est hissé au 8e rang mondial.   Derrière ce duo, le Nigeria occupe la 26e place mondiale avec 1 581,55 points, suivi de près par l’Algérie, 28e avec 1 560,91 points.   L’Égypte et la Côte d’Ivoire complètent le top 6 africain, respectivement classées 31e et 37e au niveau mondial, avec 1 556,71 et 1 522,48 points.   Le Cameroun (45e) et la Tunisie (47e) figurent ensuite dans la hiérarchie continentale, devant la République démocratique du Congo (48e) et le Mali (54e). Ces sélections confirment leur constance sur la scène africaine et internationale.   Plus bas dans le classement, l’Afrique du Sud apparaît au 60e rang mondial, suivie du Burkina Faso (62e) et du Cap-Vert (67e). Le Ghana se positionne à la 72e place, tandis que la Guinée et le Gabon occupent respectivement les 80e et 86e rangs.   Enfin, l’Ouganda, l’Angola, la Zambie et le Bénin viennent compléter le top 20 africain, illustrant la densité et la compétitivité croissante du football sur le continent.     Le Sénégal, sacré champion d’Afrique pour la deuxième fois de son histoire lors de la CAN 2025 au Maroc, aurait dû être l’objet de toutes les félicitations. Pourtant, le comportement de la Confédération africaine de football (CAF) a surpris et interpellé de nombreux observateurs.   Au lieu d’un message de reconnaissance pour un succès historique, la CAF a publié un communiqué rappelant d’éventuelles sanctions à l’encontre des supporters, du staff technique avec à sa tête Pape Thiaw et des joueurs sénégalais, en lien avec certains débordements observés lors de la finale. Une démarche qui donne l’impression d’un regard plus punitif que célébratoire, laissant de côté la dimension sportive et historique de la victoire.   Un ton jugé partisan   Pour beaucoup, ce choix de communication traduit un comportement partisan. Plutôt que de mettre en avant le triomphe des Lions de la Teranga, la CAF semble adopter une posture qui pourrait rappeler celle d’une instance souhaitant rejouer la finale ou minimiser la légitimité du sacre sénégalais. Tout porte à croire que la faitière du football africain voudrait voir le Maroc remporter ce titre. Ce contraste entre le succès sur le terrain et le discours institutionnel a alimenté la polémique et provoqué une certaine frustration au Sénégal et parmi les fans africains.   Quand sanction et célébration devraient coexister   Il ne s’agit pas de nier la nécessité d’un rappel au respect du fair-play et des règles, mais nombreux sont ceux qui estiment qu’une sanction éventuelle ne doit jamais éclipser la célébration d’un titre continental. Le Sénégal a construit un parcours exemplaire au cours des dernières années, atteignant trois finales sur quatre éditions de la CAN et remportant deux trophées : un palmarès qui mérite d’être reconnu et salué. En adoptant ce ton uniquement répressif, la CAF donne l’image d’une instance éloignée des émotions et des enjeux sportifs. A 48-year-old man was behind bars Monday, Jan. 19, on suspicion of fatally shooting another man at a home in Huntington Beach on Sunday night, authorities said. The victim was found with gunshot wounds in the 4500 block of Scenario Drive about 11:30 p.m., Huntington Beach Sgt. Anthony Pham said. He died at a hospital. Police responded after receiving a call of shots fired, Pham said. “Based on interviews and evidence at the scene,” police arrested Robert Emery of Huntington Beach on suspicion of murder, Pham said. Whether the victim was found inside or outside the home was unclear. He was identified by the coroner as Tyquan Devone Maurice Rawlins, 35, of Long Beach. The team brought on Campbell Wright, a rising star and dual citizen from New Zealand who combined fast skiing and precision shooting to win two world championship silver medals last year and has had strong results this season. In addition, the team has a homecourt advantage, of sorts: Their Italian head coach, Armin Auchentaller, grew up in Antholz, the village that’s hosting the Olympic biathlon competitions. His assistant coach and support staff are also from the region, ensuring the team has the inside scoop on the ski trails, snow, climate, food and housing. “We feel Antholz is almost a second home to us,” said U.S. Biathlon CEO Jack Gierhart. “Armin made it easy for us to operate there. Wright, a 23-year-old from Wanaka, New Zealand, was born and raised Down Under by American parents who emigrated there in the 1990s. He spent his early years at the Snow Farm cross-country ski center, learned biathlon in Europe and raced for New Zealand at the Beijing Olympics. Seeking support from a seasoned team, his dual citizenship allowed him to join the U.S. in 2023. That support has helped him to thrive. In February 2025, he became the first U.S. biathlete to win two medals at one world championship event, taking home back-to-back silvers in the sprint and pursuit competitions in Lenzerheide, Switzerland. They were the first U.S. world medals since Susan Dunklee won silver in 2020. She also won silver and Lowell Bailey gold in 2017.
