Théâtre, sociabilité et transferts culturels dans le duché de Luxembourg et les territoires voisins, 1600–1815
Theatre, Sociability, and Cultural Transfers in the Duchy of Luxembourg and Neighbouring Territories, 1600–1815 University of Luxembourg (Esch-Belval Campus) 9-10 October 2026 Pour la version française, voir plus loin Für die deutscher Fassung, siehe unten The early modern period witnessed a rich and varied traffic of people, ideas, and cultural practices across the territories we today call the Grande Région/Großregion: Wallonia, Luxembourg, Lorraine and other parts of eastern France, and the German states of Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. Between 1600 and 1815, theatres, fairs, religious processions, civic festivals, political spectacles, and other performances animated towns large and small, acting not only as occasions for entertainment but also as potential vehicles of sociability, education, and cultural transfer. Actors, troupes, and musicians moved across linguistic, political, and confessional borders, creating a dynamic space of interaction that blurs the boundaries imposed by dynasties and wars. Dear Annie: My only son moved out without explanation
Dear Annie: I’m just heartbroken. My son moved out last year, and he never talked to me about anything before he moved. We were so close, and we always talked. But all of a sudden, he packed up and moved out with no explanation. He had met someone a year prior to that. I met her for a second, and that was it. I do know where he is living but he doesn’t know that I know. He has a new baby boy; I don’t even know his name, yet he is my grandson. I know that he has two stepdaughters, but I don’t know their names either.
