Tinariwen Announce New Album Hoggar: Hear “Sagherat Assani”

Tuareg desert blues greats Tinariwen have been making mind-expanding guitar music for decades; they’re an institution. In a few months, they’ll follow their 2023 album Amatssou with a new LP called Hoggar. They’ll also tour the world, but they can’t play North America because of the current travel ban in place in the US. According… The post Tinariwen Announce New Album Hoggar: Hear…

Anna Butterss, From Adelaide To Enfield

Anna Butterss is an Australian-born bassist who's been living in the US for a decade and a half, and in that time has become a key supporting player on two seemingly unrelated scenes. As a member of guitarist Jeff Parker's Enfield Tennis Academy (ETA for short) quartet and the collective SML (pictured above), a collaborator with Makaya McCraven and a solo artist, they are a vital member of the LA jazz underground; as a member of Jason Isbell's touring band and a session player for Neko Case, Aimee Mann, boygenius, Kathleen Edwards, Ben Lee, and others, they help shape the sound of contemporary indie singer-songwriterism (I guess; I don't listen to that stuff). Lightning Bolt Announce Split LP With OOIOO, Share New Song “CLOUD CORE”

For many years, Providence noise-rock legends Lightning Bolt and experimental Osaka wizards the Boredoms have recognized each other as fellow travelers. I once saw Lightning Bolt open a New York Boredoms show, and let me tell you, that was a good night. Boredoms drummer YoshimiO, whose name you probably recognize from that one Flaming Lips… The post Lightning Bolt Announce Split LP With OOIOO, Share New Song…

The New Pornographers Announce New Album The Former Site Of: Hear “Votive”

The New Pornographers had a rough time last year. In April, Joe Seiders, their drummer of a decade, was arrested for possession of child sex abuse materials. Publicly, the rest of the band handled the controversy with grace: They immediately severed ties with Seiders and laid pretty low for the rest of the year, eventually assuaging fans’… The post The New Pornographers Announce New Album The Former Site Of: Hear “Votive” appeared first on Stereogum.

SUPERWORLD Announce Debut Album Super World: Hear “The Dream”

Last year, members of Spy, Leer, and Stickup Kid formed SUPERWORLD. You may think, from their name, that they’re joining Superheaven and Superbloom in making super-grungy tunes. You’d be wrong. They’ve got too much energy for that. They’re blending screamo and math-rock to create some very emo anthems. You can hear it in today’s “The Dream,”… The post SUPERWORLD Announce Debut Album Super World: Hear “The Dream” appeared first on Stereogum.

Henry Rollins Reveals What That Secret New Record With Ian MacKaye Was All About

Henry Rollins and Ian MacKaye might be the two most famous hardcore frontmen of the '80s, and they've been close friends since they were both teenagers, working together at a Häagen-Dazs in DC. But the two of them have never made music together, so Rollins kicked up a lot of speculation a few months ago when he said that he and MacKaye were working on "a great project" together at DC's storied Inner Ear studios. Rollins quickly clarified that this particular record wouldn't actually feature him or MacKaye. Now, he's finally saying what he was talking about.
