Packers to interview Eagles coordinator Christian Parker for defensive coordinator

The Green Bay Packers will interview Philadelphia Eagles defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator Christian Parker for their defensive coordinator vacancy, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. According to Schultz, Parker is set to interview with the Dallas Cowboys for their defensive coordinator job on Wednesday and then “head straight to Green Bay afterward.” Parker began his NFL career as a quality control coach under Mike Pettine, beginning in 2019, head coach Matt LaFleur’s first year in Green Bay. After two seasons in that role, Parker took over as the Denver Broncos’ defensive backs coach from 2021 to 2023. Over those three seasons, the Broncos’ defense posted an 88.6 passer rating, which was good for the 12th-best in the league. Parker held the defensive backs role in Denver under three different head coaches: Vic Fangio, former Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and Sean Payton. In 2024, Parker reunited with Fangio, the current defensive coordinator with the Eagles, and managed to beat the Packers in the playoffs on the way to last year’s Super Bowl. In his two years with Philadelphia, Parker’s Eagles have posted a 75.4 passer rating, the second-best rate in the league, only behind the Los Angeles Chargers. So far, this is the first known interview that Green Bay has scheduled for its defensive coordinator opening. Parker was requested to interview by the Cowboys, but he hasn’t been requested for the New York Giants, New York Jets and Washington Commanders, the three other teams that have set up defensive coordinator interviews so far this offseason. In 2024, Parker was one of the Packers’ known defensive coordinator interviewees following Joe Barry’s firing, which led to Jeff Hafley’s hiring. Others who interviewed include Aden Durde (defensive coordinator in Seattle — Seahawks can block a lateral interview request), Zach Orr (defensive coordinator in Baltimore — TBD on whether he will be kept by a new staff), Brandon Staley (defensive coordinator in New Orleans — can be blocked) and Dennard Wilson (defensive coordinator in Tennessee — TBD on whether he will be kept by a new staff).

Green Bay Packers Defensive Coordinator Interview Tracker 2026

With former defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley off coaching the Miami Dolphins, the biggest move that the Green Bay Packers will make this offseason will probably be who they replace Hafley with. In talking to those in the know in the coaching and coaching representation space, two names have come up consistently (throughout the year), mostly because of convenience: defensive line coach/run game coordinator Demarcus Covington and pass game coordinator Derrick Ansley, two internal candidates who came to Green Bay after previous stints as defensive coordinators in the NFL. Along with Hafley, both Covington and Ansley each have six years of non-Packers experience as on-field coaches in the NFL, the most on the staff outside of head coach Matt LaFleur and special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia. Covington has received some defensive coordinator interest from other clubs in 2026, but the same hasn’t been said of Ansley, at least yet. For what it’s worth, the same people who believe that Covington and Ansley could be defensive coordinator candidates in Green Bay also believe that Hafley could bring one with him at his next gig, too. Another name to know, from the Hafley end, is Jacksonville Jaguars’ linebackers coach Tem Lukabu, who was Hafley’s defensive coordinator from 2020 to 2022. Sean Duggan, the Packers’ current linebackers coach, was a linebackers coach under Lukabu and was one of two co-defensive coordinators who were promoted once Lukabu left for the NFL. At this point, it’s unclear whether Hafley, who coached in the booth on gamedays for Green Bay, will be a sideline play-caller for the Dolphins or if he will simply be a “CEO” style head coach. Now that the Hafley talk is over, let’s steer it back to the Packers. Other teams are going to be in the defensive coordinator market, but the teams that are hitting it the most aggressively, in terms of interviews, right now are the Dallas Cowboys and New York Jets. The Washington Commanders are also poking around, but their search is going much more slowly than the Cowboys and Jets, at least on Monday, January 19th. Other candidates might become available down the line (teams can block lateral moves if coaches are under contract), but at least one, the Atlanta Falcons’ Jeff Ulbrich, has been taken off the board. Ulbrich will be staying with the Falcons under new head coach Kevin Stefanski. He had an interview for the Dallas Cowboys’ opening blocked by the Falcons. A name brought up a lot by Packers fans is Raheem Morris, because of his close ties with LaFleur, but there’s some thought that he might just pivot to television (he has fans in the media) or could take a year off. Remember, when coaches are fired, their remaining salaries are still guaranteed. Morris might not be in a hurry to take a job, and he hasn’t scheduled an interview for defensive coordinator yet. Other candidates who might become available include Miami’s Anthony Weaver, Baltimore’s Zach Orr, Cleveland’s Jim Schwartz, Tennessee’s Dennard Wilson and Las Vegas’ Patrick Graham, sitting defensive coordinators who are receiving head coaching interviews right now, but whose head coaches were fired. With all that being said, here’s a list of every coach who, so far, has at least scheduled an NFL defensive coordinator interview this cycle. We’ll also note which team(s) they interviewed with and if they have prior ties to the Packers. Aaron Whitecotton, Dallas Cowboys, defensive line coach Dallas Cowboys Whitecotton actually interviewed for the Packers for their defensive line vacancy last offseason, a job that ultimately went to Covington. Brian Flores, Minnesota Vikings, defensive coordinator Dallas Cowboys Washington Commanders Flores has no ties to Green Bay as a defensive coordinator candidate, but he was interviewed for the 2019 head coaching opening that led to the hiring of LaFleur. Charlie Bullen, New York Giants, interim defensive coordinator Dallas Cowboys Chris Harris, New York Jets, interim defensive…

Dolphins hire Packers DC Jeff Hafley to be their next head coach

The Green Bay Packers will need a new defensive coordinator in 2026. On Monday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Miami Dolphins will be hiring Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley to be the team’s next head coach, following the firing of Mike McDaniel earlier this offseason. The Dolphins also made a change at general manager, hiring former Packers vice president of player personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan to run their front office. This isn’t the first move that the Dolphins have made to poach from the Packers since Sullivan’s hiring, either, as the team has signed preseason star Omar Brown, who was placed on injured reserve for a collapsed lung and later waived with an injury settlement, and brought in a pro scout from Green Bay, too. Hafley joined Green Bay in 2024, following a head coaching stint at Boston College, where he had three different athletic directors in four seasons. In 2024, Hafley’s disguise-heavy defense improved throughout the season. After the team’s Week 10 bye that year, the Packers only allowed 18.4 points per game. His defense’s performance in the second half of the 2024 season was the catalyst for his name getting hot at the head coaching level in the NFL. Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said several times this year that he believed that Hafley was going to get a job in 2025, that it was surprising to LaFleur that Hafley didn’t get a job last cycle and that he expected Hafley to receive one in 2026. In total, Hafley interviewed with six teams for their head coaching vacancies this year. Hafley said in December that his expectation for “Micah [Parsons] and myself” is for the All-Pro pass-rusher to return from injury and lead the league in sacks in 2026. Obviously, Parsons and Hafley will no longer be paired up for the upcoming season. Now, it’s time for the defensive coordinator search. Green Bay has two potential internal candidates, defensive line coach and run game coordinator Demarcus Covington and passing game coordinator Derrick Ansley, on staff. Both have previously been defensive coordinators at the NFL level. Sources in the coaching representation world have told me throughout the year that both Covington and Ansley make some sense as either Hafley’s replacement in Green Bay or Hafley’s defensive coordinator, should he take a head coaching gig. At this point, it’s not clear whether Hafley, who coached in the booth for the Packers, will be an on-field play-caller in Miami. Covington has already interviewed for the Dallas Cowboys and New York Jets defensive coordinator openings this offseason, the two most developed searches thus far in 2026.

Lions hire offensive coordinator Drew Petzing

One of the first coordinators to be hired this cycle was not a particularly hot name on the market. Everyone and their mother wants former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel to call offensive plays for their team next year, but that enthusiasm never built around Drew Petzing, who, like head coach Jonathan Gannon, was fired from the Arizona Cardinals after this season. Petzing is a 38-year-old who had the…
