Dodgers Get Major Kyle Tucker News Amid Mets, Blue Jays Link
Free-agent Hitter Kyle Tucker has yet to sign with any MLB team, and that could bode well for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Tucker is probably the best player out on the free-agent market, but he isn’t having times lining up to pay what he and his camp are demanding. As the days go by, Tucker might need to re-evaluate his demands, which could benefit the teams that have stayed patient on their front. On Jan. 6, former MLB general manager Jim Duquette reported, citing a league source, that the New York Mets, the Dodgers, and the Toronto Blue Jays are the most aggressive suitors for Tucker. Nothing appears imminent, but there’s a clear gap between them and the other teams reportedly interested. If the Dodgers can get Tucker at their asking price, it would fill a need in the outfield. While the outfield is a weak spot for the reigning back-to-back World Series champions, it’s not enough to overspend. However, if Los Angeles feel like the price fits their budget, they can clearly jump in to land the former Chicago Cubs player.Should the Dodgers Worry About the Mets for Kyle Tucker? On Jan. 5, The Athletic’s Will Sammon appeared on SNY’s “Baseball Night in New York “ to share whether the Mets are a serious suitor for Tucker.“I would suspect that [Tucker is] the crown jewel of this free agent class, and he probably has other options that may be better, “ Sammon said. “We’ll see, because [the Mets are] always going to lurk, they’re always going to linger, they’re going to check in on guys, and they have the resources to make things very interesting.”Moreover, Sammon gave an update on the Mets’ interest in Cody Bellinger.“They’ll check in on it, and if this market is not what he wants it to be, they could swoop in,” Sammon added. “To your point, Sal, they could be that team that uses those resources of Steve Cohen to their advantage and say, ‘Hey, here’s a shorter offer, but the AAV, the annual average value, the dollars, it’s going to be pretty high.’ That does entice guys sometimes.”Where Do the Blue Jays Stand for Kyle Tucker? As for the other team in what looks like a three-horse race, the Blue Jays, one insider believes that while Toronto have had interest in Tucker, the top suitor for the outfielder is the Mets. “At one point, the Blue Jays looked like the best candidate to give Kyle Tucker a long-term deal, ” Ben Nicholson-Smith said on Jan. 5 during an appearance on Sportsnet 590 The Fan. “Now, I would say that’s the Mets because, you look at the Mets roster, they have Tyrone Taylor starting in one outfield spot on their projection.“They have Carson Benge, I had to check that name, starting in one of their other outfield spots. So, clearly, the Mets need to add an outfielder. Kyle Tucker’s out there; the Mets spend like nobody else.”The Dodgers already addressed one weakness on their team, which was the closer role, with the addition of Edwin Diaz. Moreover, it seems like their patience is opening the door to address another weak spot. If they can come away with Diaz and potentially Tucker, a three-peat is definitely in the cards for Los Angeles. Like Heavy Sports's content? Be sure to follow us. 3 Bears Players With Everything on the Line in the Playoffs
As the Chicago Bears prepare for their NFC Wild Card matchup against the Green Bay Packers, no three players have more at stake (or less margin for error) than DJ Moore, Nahshon Wright, and Jaquan Brisker.DJ Moore: From featured weapon to lingering questionFew players encapsulate the Bears’ uneasy transition into the postseason quite like DJ Moore. The veteran wide receiver briefly looked like he was turning a corner late in the season. With Rome Odunze sidelined and rookie Luther Burden dealing with injuries, Moore had every chance to reassert himself as Caleb Williams’ go to option. In weeks 15 and 16 he did just that with nine catches, 166 yards, and three touchdowns. But then it all fell apart. And over the final two games of the regular season, Moore managed just two catches for 18 yards. Moore’s final stats of 50 catches for 682 yards and six touchdowns are career lows across the board. That’s a tough pill to swallow for a 28 year old receiver set to make $28.5 million, especially on a team with younger pass catchers waiting in the wings. With Odunze, Burden, and Colston Loveland all part of the long term plan, Moore’s role, and value, is suddenly under scrutiny. The Bears can free up significant cap space with a post-June 1st trade, even without a contract out until 2028. This postseason could be his last chance to remind everyone why he was once considered the engine of this offense.Nahshon Wright: A liability the Bears can’t afford GettyBears CB Nahshon Wright All season, opposing quarterbacks have targeted Nahshon Wright with confidence… And for good reason. Against Detroit, he allowed four catches on five targets for 68 yards and the Lions had a 118.8 passer rating against him according to PFF.On the season, Wright has given up 53 receptions on 83 targets for 725 yards and seven touchdowns. Yes, he has five interceptions (including a memorable pick six in week 1) but splash plays don’t outweigh consistent breakdowns, especially in the playoffs. With Kyler Gordon set to return, Jaylon Johnson and Tyrique Stevenson locked in, and young depth waiting for opportunities, Wright’s place in Chicago feels shaky. Unless he looks like a completely different player in the playoffs, this will most likely be his final stretch in a Bears uniform.Jaquan Brisker: Playing for his next contract GettyBears S Jaquan Brisker The Bears’ defense got exposed against the Lions, allowing 433 yards and over 35 minutes of possession. Afterward, Jaquan Brisker didn’t mince words, openly saying defensive coordinator Dennis Allen “got out-schemed.”Calling out your DC isn’t exactly the brightest idea in a contract year, especially cause Brisker’s play hasn’t backed up the frustration.According to PFF, he has allowed 31 completions on 41 targets for 302 yards and four touchdowns, resulting in a career worst 118.1 passer rating in coverage. The playoffs offer Brisker a chance to reset the narrative. To be the physical, tone-setting safety Chicago envisioned. If not, this postseason may be the end for him in Chicago. The playoffs have a way of clarifying things. And the Bears are about to find out who rises, and who gets left behind. Like Heavy Sports's content? Be sure to follow us.
