L’Olympique de Safi s’est incliné, ce vendredi 28 novembre au stade El Massira, face à l’USMA (0-1), dans le cadre de la 2e journée de la Coupe de la CAF. Ironie du football, les Usmistes ont gagné la partie grâce à un but inscrit par l’ancien du Wydad de Casablanca, Zakaria Draoui, à la 84e minute de jeu. Ainsi, l’USM Alger rentre du Maroc avec cette courte, mais ô combien précieuse victoire ! En prenant, du coup, la tête de son groupe de la Coupe de la Confédération. Les Rouge et Noir confirment ainsi leur grande forme sous la houlette du coach Abdelhak Benchikha, qui connaît parfaitement le football marocain pour y avoir exercé. Les joueurs de l’USMA ont dû attendre les dernières minutes de la partie pour arracher cette victoire (84e). Suite à un excellent travail collectif, Zakaria Draoui hérite du ballon avant de l’envoyer au fond des filets de l’Olympique Safi pour offrir les trois précieux points à l’extérieur à son équipe. Grâce à leur discipline dans le jeu et une défense bien organisée, les Usmistes ont réussi à surprendre les gars de Safi en fin de partie. En effet, l’équipe algérienne s’est montrée plus efficace en seconde période, concrétisant l’une de ses rares occasions pour s’assurer la victoire. Ainsi, et suite à cette belle victoire, l’USM Alger prend la tête du groupe avec six points en deux matchs, suivie par l’Olympique Safi (3 points), puis San Pedro et AC Djoliba qui ferment la marche avec zéro point. Cette victoire montre que l’USMA est sur la bonne voie pour rester sur cette dynamique de bons résultats sur le plan continental. Light flyweight champion Carlos Canizales got yet another stroke of bad luck this week. After agreeing to return to Thailand to battle former minimumweight champ Knockout CP Freshmart, ESPN’s Renato Bermudez announced yesterday that Canizales had withdrawn. Canizales took to social media to reveal that the recent decision by several major international airlines to stop flying out of Caracas would have left him with an unmanageable five-leg travel plan, giving him no time to acclimate or recover in time for the December 4th fight night. Said decision came due to increased U.S. military presence in the Caribbean and consistent provocation towards the ruling government, including the extrajudicial killing of alleged drug runners and the designation of president Nicolas Maduro as the head of the “foreign terrorist group” Cartel de los Soles that does not appear to actually exist. Canizales (28-3-1, 20 KO) brutally stopped Panya Pradabsri in their rematch this past August, avenging a bogus decision loss in Thailand the previous year. Despite this being a voluntary defense and Canizales not being due for a mandatory defense until next summer, the WBC appear to have stripped Canizales of the belt and declared him “champion in recess,” pitting Knockout (28-1, 11 KO) against Argentina’s Junior Zarate (26-5, 9 KO) for the now-vacant title. Keep in mind that this is the same sanctioning body that let Jermall Charlo go 1,000 days without a title defense. Dude just can’t catch a break.
