Holiday extravaganza, American Gold Live, skates into Philadelphia this weekend
Philadelphia will be spinning with excitement as American Gold Live twirls into the city this weekend. The holiday figure-skating extravaganza will feature two shows in the city’s University City neighborhood on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Penn Ice Rink. This is your chance to see world class figure skaters beofre the Winter Olympics begins. Olympic Champion Brian Boitano will be on the mic as host and he shared that the lineup gaurantees a great show. “Two world champions, a world silver medalist,” Boitano told NBC10. Some of Team USA’s brightest Olympic hopefuls, World Champions Alysa Liu and Ilia Malinin, nicked Quadgod, plus World Silver medalist and South Jersey’s own Isabeau Levito will dazzle audiences. “Some cool spins, cool jumps, and some really amazing choreography because we don’t have any rules here so we can really go all out and do our favorite things,” said Liu. “I think they are going to skate a little unplugged. They will be skating for the audience, not for judges, not for marks,” Boitano added. The shows will also honor the young figure skaters who lost their lives in the January plane crash with net proceeds going to a legacy fund helping the next generation of American skaters. Lindsey Vonn wins World Cup downhill at age 41 to start her Olympic season
The queen of downhill skiing is well and truly back. Lindsey Vonn raced to a stunningly fast win in a World Cup downhill on Friday to earn her first victory in nearly eight years — and the first in her comeback with titanium implants in her right knee after a five-year retirement. The 41-year-old U.S. ski great seized the lead by an astonishing 1.16 seconds ahead of Mirjam Puchner of Austria. Even wilder was that Vonn trailed by 0.61 after the first two time checks. Vonn’s lead was later cut to 0.98 — still a massive margin in downhill — when unheralded Magdalena Egger took second place from teammate Puchner. “It was an amazing day, I couldn’t be happier, pretty emotional,” Vonn told Swiss broadcaster RTS. “I felt good this summer but I wasn’t sure how fast I was. I guess I know now how fast I am.” It was a perfect start to her Olympic season to get a first victory since a downhill in March 2018 at Are, Sweden. Vonn’s superb debut working with new coach Aksel Lund Svindal, a men’s downhill great who won the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics title, suggests their stellar partnership is paying off. Her run Friday looked routine when she dropped tenths of seconds to Puchner’s time on the top half of the sunbathed Corviglia course, where the finish is at altitude above 6,500 feet. Vonn then was faster than anyone through the next speed checks, touching 74 mph, and posted the fastest time splits for the bottom half. She skied through the finish area and bumped against the inflated safety barrier, lay down in the snow and raised her arms on seeing her time. Vonn got up, punched the air with her right fist and shrieked with joy before putting her hands to her left cheek in a sleeping gesture. 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics May 19 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan Cortina: See dates, sports, how to watch, more 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics Jun 16 Get to know Team USA Olympians ahead of the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics Jun 9 How to watch the 2026 Olympics in Milan Cortina The 2010 Olympic champion is targeting another gold medal at the 2026 Milan Cortina Games in February. Women’s alpine skiing is at the storied Cortina d’Ampezzo course in the Dolomites, which Vonn has mastered in her career. “Obviously my goal is Cortina, but if this is the way we start, I think I’m in a good spot,” said Vonn, who will be favored for another downhill win Saturday at St. Moritz. Friday’s race was Vonn’s 125th start in World Cup downhill in her storied career, 24 years after the first at Lake Louise, Canada. She has now won a record-extending 44 of them, including at St. Moritz in 2012, and has 83 race victories across all World Cup disciplines. Her previous win at Are came weeks after Vonn took bronze in downhill at the Pyeongchang Winter Games in South Korea, which was the last time she went to an Olympics. She also won gold in downhill at the Vancouver Olympics in 2010, and at the 2009 world championships at Val d’Isere, France.

Philadelphia police spread holiday cheer to families with ‘Shop with a Cop' event
Philadelphia police are spreading holiday cheer and ensuring hundreds of deserving families have what they need this season. On Thursday, the Philadelphia Police Department hosted its 5th annual Shop with a Cop event at the Walmart in South Philadelphia on Columbus Boulevard. Officials noted that this year’s event was the largest Shop with a Cop event to date, with nearly 600 families participating. Families, who police identified as most in need, participated in a day filled with shopping, festivities, and community spirit. Festivities included a children’s petting zoo, mummers performers, face painting, games, and so much more. Officials said that during the event, each child also received a $150 Walmart gift card, lunch and the opportunity to take home seasonal clothing and school supplies. “When you have the opportunity to give kids gifts during this Christmas, especially during these challenging times, when a lot of families can’t afford it. What a special day,” Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel told NBC10. “It takes you back to those days as a child, coming down and having toys under the tree. I think about the children out here today who won’t experience that. If you could bring that experience to them. I’m just so proud of the support we received, and more importantly, the police officers who volunteered their time.” This event was made possible with the support of the police department’s long-time partners, the Philadelphia Police Foundation and Walmart.

Man charged after using wife's Homeland Security vehicle to pose as officer
A New Jersey man has been arrested and charged after police said he used his wife’s Homeland Security-marked vehicle and posed as a federal officer while responding to a police call. According to the Washington Township Police Department in Gloucester County, on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, just before 2 p.m., officers were called to Strand Avenue for a property check after a person reported that a home under construction had a front door open. Cabral, of Sewell, Washington Township, exited the Dodge Charger Homeland Security vehicle and identified himself to the responding officers as a Homeland Security officer, according to police. Police said that Cabral then attempted to assist the officers at the scene in clearing the residence while armed, holding a handgun. Although he possessed a valid New Jersey permit to carry, police said a follow-up investigation revealed that Cabral is not employed by Homeland Security, any federal law enforcement agency, or police department. Further investigation revealed that Cabral had been operating a marked Homeland Security Police vehicle belonging to his wife, who is employed by Homeland Security as a police officer and was out of state on a duty assignment. Police said data showed the Homeland Security vehicle was driven with emergency lights activated and also went to the Wendy’s Restaurant while Cabral’s wife was away on assignment. Homeland Security now has possession of the vehicle, according to police. As a result of this incident, a warrant was issued for Cabral, who then turned himself in on Thursday, December 11, 2025. Police said Cabral has been charged with impersonating a police officer and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Cabral was lodged in the Salem County Jail, according to police. The firearm Cabral had was seized following a search. “Impersonating a police officer is an extremely serious offense and presents significant risk. The safety of our Washington Twp. police officers and the public remains our number one priority,” the Washington Township Police Department wrote in a news release. Anyone with additional information or potential impersonation encounters is urged to contact Detective Anthony Aquilino at 856-589-0330 or at araquilino@pd.twp.washington.nj.us.
