Jacksonville Jaguars vs. New York Jets Week 15 stats, matchup preview

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA – SEPTEMBER 17: Patrick Mahomes #15 of the Kansas City Chiefs runs with the ball during the second quarter against the Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Stadium on September 17, 2023 in Jacksonville, Florida. (Photo by Mike Carlson/Getty Images) As the Jacksonville Jaguars prepare to face the New York Jets in Week 15, we sat down with MacGregor Wells of Gang Green Nation to learn more about the opposing side. Question 1: Brady Cook was thrown into action last week due to injuries to Tyrod Taylor and Justin Fields. Who do you expect to be the starter at QB this week — and is it safe to assume the Jets’ 2026 starter is not on the current roster? It’s not clear who will start for the Jets on Sunday. The Jets just added Asrian Gonzalez to the practice squad this week, which may indicate Taylor and Fields won’t be available. My guess is Cook will start with Gonzalez as the backup, but I don’t have a high level of confidence in that. As for who will be the starter at quarterback for the Jets in 2026, I would be shocked if he is on the current Jets roster. Fields will almost certainly be cut, or, in the unlikely event the Jets can find a taker, traded. Taylor will be a free agent. I doubt the Jets will bring him back, but if they do, it is highly unlikely he will be the starter. Cook is an undrafted rookie who looks nothing like an NFL starting quarterback at the moment. He can’t be the plan for 2026. The Jets starter at quarterback in 2026 will likely be somebody they sign as a free agent, somebody they trade for, or somebody they draft. Question 2: Are Jets fans content with the start of Aaron Glenn’s tenure? Where could he improve? Some Jets fans like what they see in Aaron Glenn, some don’t. I think it’s too early to pass judgment. The Jets roster is a joke, particularly after they traded Quinnen Williams and Sauce Gardner, their two best players, at the trade deadline. The Jets have no credible quarterbacks on the roster. They have no credible receivers other than Garret Wilson, who has been injured much of the season. The Jets have no credible tight ends beyond rookie Mason Taylor. They have no credible safeties besides rookie Malachi Moore. They have one of the worst groups of pass rushers in the NFL. They have a bunch of middling cornerbacks. The only real area of strength for the Jets is the offensive line. Nobody could be expected to make this work as a head coach. However, there are areas of concern for Glenn. He has yet to unlock Breece Hall’s pass-catching prowess. With Wilson out, one would assume getting Hall the ball in space would be a priority, but that hasn’t been the case. In addition, the way they handled Fields was puzzling. If you want him to run your offense, you need a ton of RPOs and designed runs to exploit Fields’ best weapon, his running prowess. Instead, the Jets tried to make him a traditional dropback passer, with predictably miserable results. There is also the matter of tackling. Glenn emphasized tackling throughout training camp, but the Jets are still terrible at tackling. So yes, there are areas where Glenn has fallen short. But it is still very early in the game. For me, I need to see how he does with a legitimate NFL roster rather than the practice squad level team he is currently fielding. We should know a lot more about Glenn’s coaching abilities by the end of 2026. Question 3: If you were gameplanning against the Jets, which areas would you look to exploit on each side of the ball? Heh. That shouldn’t be too challenging. On defense, shut down the run and the Jets will be rendered helpless on offense. Without a credible quarterback or credible receivers, just stopping Breece Hall should do the trick. On offense, target the safeties. The Jets’ safeties can’t cover anybody. The linebackers aren’t much better. A steady diet of passes to slot receivers, tight ends and running backs should be very successful. Question 4: Who’s an under-the-radar player or two that Jaguars fans…

Has Cole Van Lanen Earned the Left Tackle Role in Duval?

For the past few weeks, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ offensive line has been playing at a near-dominant level, culminating on Sunday with zero sacks or quarterback hits surrendered to the Indianapolis Colts. Many within both the fanbase and local media have been clamoring for a new starting left tackle based on recent play by swing tackle Cole Van Lanen. He finally stepped in for starting left tackle Walker Little…

Jaguars Rookie Report: Jags dominant despite quiet Week 14 for rookies

The Jacksonville Jaguars dominated their division rival Indianapolis Colts 36-19 on Sunday to take full game lead on the AFC South. It was a complete team effort as all three phases had big moments in the victory. The stars were the focal point of the win as the rookies took a back seat a bit this week, but there were certainly some flashes from several young players. Let’s break down each of their performances in…

Jaguars jump up NFL power rankings entering Week 15

As Week 15 approaches, we rounded up the latest NFL power rankings to get a sense of how the Jaguars are viewed nationally. CBS Sports: 6 (last week: 8) From Pete Prisco: Trevor Lawrence has taken major strides the past two weeks. It’s all starting to click in the new offense. Pro Football Talk: 7 (9) From Mike Florio: They played once at Levi’s Stadium this year. Could they be returning? ESPN: 8 (13) From Mike DiRocco: Most shocking statistical ranking: Wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr . is 50th in receiving yards Expectations were pretty high for Thomas after a big rookie season — 1,282 yards (third in the NFL) and 10 TDs — but he has had issues catching the ball (five drops) and rookie Travis Hunter moved ahead of Thomas into the No. 1 receiver role by Week 7 before Hunter ‘s season-ending injury. Thomas did miss three games because of an ankle injury and has had five catches for 115 yards in the two games since his return. But the team now views Jakobi Meyers — whom they traded for on Nov. 4 — as its No. 1 wideout. Thomas has 535 receiving yards so far. USA Today: 9 (9) From Nate Davis: They’re holding steady at No. 9 − and now firmly atop the AFC South with fifth-year QB Trevor Lawrence playing his most efficient football of the season heading into the stretch drive. The Ringer: 9 (11) From Diante Lee: Nothing about Jacksonville’s successful season has felt intentional, let alone sustainable, but I think that the Jaguars are turning the corner. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence has finally found a good rhythm in the passing game, his receivers are catching the ball again, and the playoff picture is shaping up for the Jags to win a game or two this postseason. After saying all that, I’m positive that this team will repay my belief by embarrassing itself in the next couple of weeks. Fox Sports: 9 (11) From Ralph Vacchiano: Beating the Colts was huge and probably wrapped up the AFC South for them. Still, it’s hard not to wonder how the game would’ve played out if Indy hadn’t lost QB Daniel Jones. NFL.com: 9 (12) From Eric Edholm: If you were to ask me to identify Jacksonville’s superpower, I’d probably stumble my way through an answer before mentioning the run defense. But once Daniel Jones was knocked out of Sunday’s game, the Jaguars flexed their muscles and put the Colts away to wrest temporary control of the division. The Texans are coming, but these Jaguars are making things work in Liam Coen’s first season. He might be running third in the Coach of the Year race behind Mike Vrabel and Ben Johnson, but Coen’s offense looked nice early against Indy before slowing down after halftime. All in all, though, this team is playing good football at the right time. Jacksonville has allowed just 13 points per game over the past four, and it’s looking like the Jags could face undrafted rookie Brady Cook at QB when the Jets come to town this Sunday. Bleacher Report: 10 (10) From Kris Knox: The Jaguars took control of the NFC South on Sunday, and there’s a good chance they secure their first division title since 2022 by winning three of their final four games. With Daniel Jones injured for Indianapolis, the Denver Broncos are probably the only playoff-caliber challenge left on Jacksonville’s schedule. If the Jags don’t play down to the competition against the Colts, Jets and Titans, they’ll host a playoff game. How Jacksonville actually fares in the postseason will hinge on Trevor Lawrence’s play and the defense’s ability to force turnovers. The Jaguars haven’t won the turnover battle and lost a game since Week 2. Sports Illustrated: 10 (12) From Conor Orr: As wrong as I was about how Ben Johnson’s demeanor was going to translate to leading an NFL locker room, I may have been equally wrong about Liam Coen. Just look at the immaculate vibes taking place here. Yahoo Sports: 13 (12) From Frank Schwab: Sunday changed everything in the AFC South. The Colts lost Daniel Jones, and the Jaguars picked up a critical win. It’s hard to watch the Jaguars…

Winners & Losers from Week 14: Jaguars Shine in the Rain Over the Colts

I think I speak for the entire city of Jacksonville when I say each and every one of us would watch 1,000 more games in the rain if what we saw Sunday would be the result. Looking to take sole control of the AFC South and the team’s playoff destiny, the Jacksonville Jaguars decimated the visiting Colts 36-19. The score is not indicative of how lopsided the game was, but regardless, the win moved the Jags to 9-4 on the year and to 11-0 in their past meetings at home with the division rival Colts. “Happy” by Pharrell Williams was the #1 song the last time the Colts won in Duval County. Since the bye week, the Jags have gone 5-1 with their lone loss inexplicably coming against the surging Texans. With at least three winnable games left on the schedule, the Jags have done a tremendous job since the bye – and since the two lifeless losses to Seattle and L.A. – to right the ship and set themselves up for future playoff success. Over the weekend, we saw that process take full effect on the first play on defense. WINNERSDevin Lloyd Two players raised their future contract price based on their play on Sunday. The first of those was Devin Lloyd. On Indy’s first offensive possession, Lloyd snagged a pick off of Daniel Jones, which set up a four-play, 21-yard scoring drive for Jacksonville to go up 7-0. It was a classic Lloyd interception, one Jags fans have seen plenty of times this year. In fact, Lloyd’s five picks this season are tied for second overall across the entire NFL. What once was a sort of hapless player, seemingly lost across the defensive space, has turned into a potential Defensive Player of the Year candidate. Lloyd tied the team lead in tackles with eight and was the fifth-highest rated player on the Jags, according to PFF, with a 77.1 grade. Suffice to say, Lloyd should be in the Pro Bowl. Vote for him. RT to #ProBowlVote for @DevinLloyd_ 💥#INDvsJAX on CBSpic.twitter.com/Ebk0TDYF3V— Jacksonville Jaguars (@Jaguars) December 7, 2025 Jakobi Meyers The second player the Jags are going to have to grapple with paying this offseason is Jakobi Meyers, who also raised his stock after yet another solid showing. Since joining the Jags, Meyers has completely changed the look of the Jaguar offense for the better. By the recent standard set by Meyers’ production, he had a bit of a “slow” day, hauling in just four passes for 39 yards and a score. He did have 10 targets and one rain-impacted drop, but it was still a solid game nonetheless. He was also key on a couple of wide receiver handoffs that the Jags love calling to pick up short yardage downs. Since joining the Jags, Meyers has 2 catches, over 260 yards, and three scores. His connection with Trevor Lawrence is undeniable and he has given the offense a boost that is almost hard to describe. His simple presence has elevated this team and has surely been a catalyst for setting up the playoff run. He will be an unrestricted free agent after this year. It would be hard to imagine this front office allows him to not wear a Jags jersey for years to come after this. Jakobi Meyers in four-plus games since joining Jaguars via trade: 20 receptions, 265 yards, three touchdowns. Jakobi Jax in full effect pic.twitter.com/WDvE1TNpNR— Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN) December 7, 2025 Tim Patrick Have a day, Tim Patrick. While certainly not high up the pecking order of WRs in Jacksonville, Patrick found his connection with Lawrence on Sunday. He was second on the team in receiving with 78 yards on five catches. He was also the recipient of maybe Lawrence’s best throw as a Jaguar. Patrick even caught a touchdown right before halftime, much to his sister’s delight, I’m sure. Patrick was solid against the Colts and yet another piece that worked on offense to just crush the Indy defense. Is he in the future plans for Jacksonville’s offense? Maybe not. But he clearly has the trust of the coaches and Lawrence. Trevor to Tim Patrick! Jags up 28-10.INDvsJAX on CBS/Paramount+https://t.co/HkKw7uXVnt…
