Insider Names Yankees Prospect as New York’s Top Trade Candidate
The New York Yankees have returned to the drawing board this offseason after failing to meet expectations once again in 2025. It’s World Series or bust at this point for the Yankees, and the front office will be hard at work over the next few months attempting to build a roster that can get this team over the hump.Much of the focus for the time being involves which players could be coming to New York this offseason. However, in order to make that happen, some players may have to end up getting moved. According to one MLB insider, one of the Yanks’ top prospects could end up being a highly desired trade chip this offseason.Yankees Linked to Potential Spencer Jones TradeThe primary goal for the Yankees right now involves loading up their major league roster with as much talent as possible. Adding players through free agency is an obvious way to make that happen, but pulling off trades can help as well. When you are in the position that New York is in, that sometimes leads to top prospects finding new homes. One of the Yanks’ best young guns in their farm system right now is outfielder Spencer Jones. The team’s No. 4 prospect, Jones is a burly outfielder who has a knack for hitting the ball hard. Jones split time in Double-A and Triple-A last season, hitting .274 with 35 home runs, 80 RBIs, and 29 stolen bases. As he prepares to enter his age-25 season, he appears to be ready for the majors. The problem is that New York simply does not have a spot available on its roster for Jones. There are certainly a slew of teams that would be willing to give him a shot at finding his way in the majors, though, and if you ask Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, he believes that it could make a lot of sense for the Yankees to move Jones in an effort to bolster some of the weaker areas of their team.“Trent Grisham’s return to the Bronx solidifies two of New York’s three outfield spots, while the Yankees are still hopeful to bring Bellinger back on a new deal,” Feinsand wrote. “That leaves Jones — the Yankees’ No. 4 prospect — and Jasson Domínguez as players without a spot to get regular playing time. Jones belted 35 home runs with a .933 OPS at Double-A and Triple-A last season, giving the Yankees a prime trade chip if they choose to use it.”Should the Yankees Trade Spencer Jones? GettyNew York Yankees prospect Spencer Jones New York already has two of its outfield spots locked in right now with Aaron Judge and Trent Grisham. If all goes according to plan, Cody Bellinger will be returning to town in free agency, but even if he doesn’t, it feels more likely the Yankees would find a proven star to help round out this trio, rather than turn to Jones. It’s not that Jones is a bad player, but the Yanks find themselves in a situation where they are expected to win now. Jones could star right away, but he’s not going to really have time to learn on the fly, meaning it may make sense to move him as part of a deal that brings a star player to town. Jones’ future could directly be related to Bellinger’s free agent decision, but even if he doesn’t re-sign with New York, it may make sense to trade Jones this offseason. Like Heavy Sports's content? Mets Trade Idea Lands 2-Time All-Star Outfielder in Massive Offseason Deal
MLB’s hot stove season is here, which means trades are happening all across the league. The New York Mets are expected to be one of the more active teams this offseason, and they’ve already dipped their feet in the trade market by making a big splash for Marcus Semien. In that trade, New York sent away outfielder Brandon Nimmo, a void that they now have to fill. So, what’s in store for the Mets in the coming months? The MLB winter meetings are early in December, and that’s usually when front offices are at their busiest with either meaningful signings or trades. A recent trade proposal has the Mets making a big splash for Minnesota Twins‘ outfielder Byron Buxton. More MLB on Heavy: Mets Trade Idea Swaps Kodai Senga for Piratesâ All-Star Starter Mets-Twins Trade Proposal Lands Byron Buxton In a recent trade proposal piece by Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter, the New York Mets are predicted to make another big splash in the trade market by acquiring two-time All-Star outfielder Byron Buxton. In the proposed trade idea, Reuter has the Mets giving away three prospects in return for Buxton. Shortstop Jett Williams, Jacob Reimer, and southpaw Jonathan Santucci. Here is the reasoning the BR writer gives for the Mets needing to add a center fielder: “The Mets got a .210/.284/.314 batting line from their center fielders in 2025, with Tyrone Taylor (85 starts) and deadline pickup Cedric Mullins (34 starts) seeing the bulk of the work, while Jeff McNeil (28 starts) also manned the position on a semi-regular basis for the first time.” GettyByron Buxton may now be open to waiving his no-trade clause. It has been reported that Byron Buxton will potentially waive his no-trade clause this offseason if he’s traded to the right suitor. With this massive track package, the Twins would be geared towards the future with three more prospects added to their organization. Minnesota had a fire sale back in July, and that leads many to believe they will offload Byron Buxton and Joe Ryan this offseason to complete the cleaning of the house. More MLB on Heavy: Red Sox Trade Idea Lands 8-Time All-Star As Potential Alex Bregman Replacement What Value Does Byron Buxton Bring? Byron Buxton is one of the premier power bats in center field. Injuries have limited his full ability in MLB, but he has played in 100+ games in back-to-back seasons. In 2025, Buxton was named to his second All-Star appearance, and finished the season with 35 home runs, 83 RBIs, and an OPS+ of 136. Buxton has spent all 11 seasons of his career in Minnesota and has three years left on his seven-year, $100 million deal. However, adding Byron Buxton would be an immediate upgrade to the Mets outfield, and as Reuter outlined when proposing this trade, New York received virtually no contributions from its center fielders last season until Jeff McNeil took over. Also, the Mets front office and ownership have highlighted that they’re focusing on “run prevention” this offseason, and adding a former Platinum Gold Glove winner in Buxton would fast-track that run prevention strategy. Browns Coach Coy on Shedeur Sanders Deep Passes vs. 49ers
One of the clear differences between new Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders and his predecessor, fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel, is both the ability and willingness to throw the ball down the field. Gabriel, at just about 6-feet, seemed to lack the stature to see the full field, the arm strength to deliver deep passes and the confidence to make those throws. He attempted seven passes of more than 20 yards in his six starts with the Browns, completing two.Sanders is 6-foot-2 and has never lacked for confidence, of course. He’s already tried eight deep balls, completing three, including an impressive throw to fellow rookie Isaiah Bond that went for a 52-yard gain and set up the second score of the Raiders‘ 24-10 win.Now the question is whether the Browns will continue to use Sanders’ deep-ball confidence going forward, including Sunday against the 49ers. One guy who will have a lot to say about that is offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, who is in just his fourth week as the play-caller. But he was frustratingly obtuse in addressing the offensive approach.Shedeur Sanders’ Browns Deep Play ‘Unbelievable Individual Effort’Rees was asked about the conventional wisdom that suggests that going deep softens a defense and opens up more of the field for the play-caller. But he did not say that was the case in Week 12, instead suggesting the Sanders-to-Bond throw was a right-place/right-time situation that helped settle Sanders down, but little else.“(Shedeur Sanders) makes an unbelievable individual effort, a great throw off his back foot, gets hit, it’s right where you want it,” Rees said. “They’re playing cover zero, which is an aggressive call. It might have dissuaded them from playing cover zero throughout the game, which again helps our protection moving forward. And then I think for him, it’s kind of like your first start, you’re on the road, like, make that first play and then it kind of settles you into the game.“So, when you talk, like I look at it through the lens of what does it open up? It probably opens up a little bit of a, you know, confidence and a relief from, okay, made that big play, now let’s focus on moving forward and going to continue to play.” (Photo by Nick Cammett/Getty Images)Offensive coordinator Tommy Rees of the Cleveland Browns 49ers Defense Soft, But Wind Might Hurt Shedeur SandersOf course, Sanders and the Browns offense won’t be playing in a vacuum. They’ll be facing a 49ers defense that has a stout reputation but has been shredded by injuries this season and has, in reality, been a shell of itself. The 49ers have allowed 2,901 yards passing this season, 26th in the NFL, as well as giving up 22 touchdowns (26th) and five interceptions (27th).At Pro Football Focus, the 49ers’ coverage unit ranks just 23rd in the NFL.That suggests a situation in which the Browns and Sanders should certainly take deep risks. Ah, but there is the weather to consider. Sunday is expected to be cold with some snow, and worse, there are wind gusts of up to 45 mph predicted. Maybe not the time to throw deep.Browns Mum on Game PlanRees said that for the Browns, when it comes to deep calls, it is not so much the quarterback as it is the situation–it’s then up to the quarterback to figure out what to do with the situation.“I just think throughout the course of the game, sometimes you call the shot versus the coverage you want, and you get it to go, right?” he said.“Sometimes you don’t and you gotta chuck the ball down and make the right decision. You know, that’s part the of process for our guys, is instilling in them is, hey, these are premier looks that we’re calling these versus and this is what we want them against. And when we have those looks, let’s take a rip. If not, then make the right decision and we’ll call it again.” Like Heavy Sports's content? Be sure to follow us. Chiefs 45-Game Starter Avoided Major Injury vs. Cowboys: Insider
The offensive line injuries have gotten the most attention, but the Kansas City Chiefs also suffered another key secondary injury against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 13, and there was good news on that front as KC heads into Week 14.With nickel/safety Christian Roland-Wallace already missing in action, the Chiefs lost veteran starter Bryan Cook to an ankle injury versus the Cowboys. Fortunately, it appears Cook avoided a major injury.“Chiefs safety Bryan Cook, who sprained his ankle Thursday vs. Dallas, avoided a high-ankle, per source,” ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler reported on November 29.Fowler added that Cook is “still awaiting more info,” but noted that this is “a good early sign.”Bryan Cook Has Become an Underrated Chiefs Leader on the Back End of the Defense GettyKansas City Chiefs safety Bryan Cook appears to have avoided a major injury in Week 13. If you include the playoffs, Cook has started a total of 45 games for Kansas City since entering the league as a second-round pick in 2022.His run as a full-time starter really began in 2023, as the Chiefs moved on from Juan Thornhill in free agency.Cook has always been known as a vocal leader of this secondary, really, since the tail end of his rookie season. He was drafted to help replace Tyrann Mathieu, and he’s done an underrated job overall since joining the organization, contributing to two Super Bowl champion rosters and one runner-up in 2024.Cook missed the final stretch of the 2023 season with another ankle injury, so his departure from Chiefs-Cowboys may have felt eerily similar to some. His 2023 campaign ended with 12 starts, which is the same number of starts that he currently has in 2025.But this positive injury update news should alter the Chiefs safety’s prognosis this time around. While it’s unclear if Cook will be back for the Week 14 matchup with the Houston Texans, it feels possible, based on Fowler’s update. That’s already a major step in the right direction, compared to 2023.Who Would Play in Week 14 if Bryan Cook Doesn’t Suit Up for Chiefs?Cook’s Week 14 injury status still appears to be TBD, despite avoiding a major injury. If the reliable starter does not suit up for the Chiefs in Week 14, expect a similar replacement plan to what we saw against the Cowboys.Veteran Mike Edwards was elevated from the practice squad for Week 13, and he ended up playing a total of 46 defensive snaps, following Cook’s departure.Ironically, a slightly younger Edwards also stepped in for Cook in 2023. So, he is clearly well-suited for the role.Expect Edwards to be elevated from the practice squad again versus the Texans if Cook is ruled out, but there’s no guarantee that he’ll start. Roland-Wallace could return from injury in Week 14, and that would add another defensive back to the mix. With Roland-Wallace sidelined against the Cowboys, safeties Chamarri Conner and Jaden Hicks played more nickel. But if Roland-Wallace is holding down the nickel role, it would allow Conner and Hicks to start at safety, potentially, with Edwards as the next man up off the bench. This could be a better replacement plan for Cook, should he miss time, as Edwards is getting older and should not necessarily be relied on as a full-time starter. We’ll continue to monitor Chiefs injury news and updates leading up to Week 14. Like Heavy Sports's content? Be sure to follow us. Ravens Fans Call Out Lamar Jackson After Rough Stretch and Suggest $120 Million QB Return
The Thanksgiving matchup at M&T Bank Stadium was supposed to be a celebration for Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens, as Joe Burrow returned for Cincinnati after nine weeks on the sidelines. Instead, it became the latest flashpoint in a growing frustration among fans as Baltimore fell 32-14 to the Cincinnati Bengals and Jackson struggled through one of the toughest performances of his career.Jackson committed three turnovers for the first time in four years, finishing the night with a fumble, an interception, missed throws, and stalled drives despite facing one of the league’s lowest-ranked defenses. The loss snapped Baltimore’s momentum and sent some fans into full-scale panic mode on social media — even floating a surprising replacement option.“I just have to play consistently,” Jackson told reporters after the game. “I can’t have turnovers, especially in any game – not just this game, but in any game – I can’t have turnovers.”Fans Call for Changes and Compare Jackson to Joe FlaccoThe loss came with plenty of blame to go around — Baltimore committed five turnovers in total, including Isaiah Likely fumbling on the goal line and Zay Flowers losing possession and having a touchdown called back. But the conversation quickly shifted to Jackson’s performance and whether the two-time NFL MVP might be slipping into a deeper slump. On X, formerly Twitter, NFL reporter Ari Meirov wrote, “Lamar has not looked like Lamar for 3 straight weeks. Waiting for it to turn around and it’s just not happening.”Before adding his stats, “#Ravens QB Lamar Jackson in his last three games: – 0 TDs – 3 INTs – 2 fumbles lost – 8 sacks.”Fans began questioning whether Baltimore needs a major shake-up in the comments. One particularly viral post even suggested the Ravens should “do the funniest thing ever” and bring back former franchise QB Joe Flacco. Baltimore has a great opportunity to do the funniest thing ever pic.twitter.com/7ZBRYOLiX0 — Nuniya Biziniss (@TheLeft1s1nsane) November 28, 2025 “The Ravens need a major refresh. Harbaugh needs to go,” one fan wrote.Another added: “They really are a more talented version of the New York Jets.”Others stepped up to defend Jackson: “My GOAT is just taking it easy on the rest of the league,” one fan insisted. Another said: “Clearly not himself off that injury he had.”Jackson has averaged under five rushing attempts per game in November — a major departure from his dual-threat identity — which has led to increased pressure and a career-high sack rate, per NFL.com data. Why Joe Flacco’s Name is Trending AgainThe Flacco chatter didn’t come out of nowhere. With Burrow recovering earlier this season, the Bengals traded with the Cleveland Browns to bring in the former Super Bowl MVP after Jake Browning struggled. Flacco immediately stabilized Cincinnati’s offense, including a career-high passing day against the Chicago Bears and a win over Aaron Rodgers on “Thursday Night Football.”Even after Burrow’s return, Flacco remained grateful for the opportunity.“As a competitor, you always want to be out there on the field,” Flacco said. “This is what I live to do, go out on that field and play football.”He also revealed he hopes to return in 2026, telling ESPN’s Ben Baby: “Hopefully it reinforces it in somebody’s mind that I can do it. I do still want to do it.”For some fans, that experience — and Flacco’s history in Baltimore — made the comparison unavoidable.Teammates—and Lamar Jackson—Still Believe in Lamar JacksonNot everyone is sounding the alarm. Safety Kyle Hamilton defended Jackson after the loss and downplayed the turnovers.“Even LeBron has an off night,” Hamilton said, via ESPN’s Jamison Hensley.Jackson himself remains confident the slump will pass.“Just be me. Just be Lamar,” he said, via Hensley. “I just have to play consistently.”The Baltimore Ravens’ — and Lamar Jackson-s— next game is a home matchup against their AFC North rival, the Pittsburgh Steelers, on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at 1:00 PM EST Like…
