The Seattle Seahawks need some reinforcements at running back following the season-ending ACL tear suffered by Zach Charbonnet. It looks like some help could be on the way. On Wednesday, ahead of their first practice for the NFC Championship showdown with the Los Angeles Rams, the Seahawks designated George Holani for return to practice. He has a 21-day window to be put on the active roster or revert to IR, but that means nothing since 21 days from now the Super Bowl will have already happened, so ignore the window. Either Holani is healthy enough to go through this week’s practice and play, or the Seahawks will have to see about his health should they reach the Super Bowl. The second-year running back out of Boise State has been out since November, when he suffered a hamstring injury on special teams in Seattle’s Week 12 win over the Tennessee Titans. Holani was placed on injured reserve shortly thereafter and there hasn’t been much need for him to return given the play of Charbonnet and Kenneth Walker III. With Charbonnet out, Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald told reporters on Monday that, “George is an option, yeah. See how it goes this week.” Holani has 22 carries for 73 yards and a touchdown on the season. His hard-nosed running style is fairly similar to Charbonnet’s, and he’s also a contributor on special teams (including returning kickoffs). Any running back help is welcome at this point, and Holani’s potential return is a welcome sight for the Seahawks. We’ll have the Seahawks’ first injury report for the Rams game by the end of day.
