Guest Warns of “Drowning” After Riding Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
A Disneyland Resort guest garnered widespread attention on Instagram after complaining that she “drowned” in the first row of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Tiana’s Bayou Adventure replaced Splash Mountain at Disneyland Park and Magic Kingdom Park in 2024. The rethemed log flume ride replaces the controversial Song of the South (1946) theme with a story set after the events of the Walt Disney Animation Studios film The Princess and the Frog (2009). Credit: Jonathan Cook-Fisher, Flickr Guests join Princess Tiana (Anika Noni Rose), Prince Naveen (Bruno Campos), Louis (Michael-Leon Wooley), and Mama Odie (Jenifer Lewis) as they assemble magicians for a party on the New Orleans bayou. Notably, Dr. Facilier (Keith David) does not appear in the attraction’s story. The ride itself is the same system as the former Splash Mountain, though Walt Disney Imagineers undoubtedly updated and replaced some components during the closure. Many Disneyland Resort guests say the new Bayou Country attraction is wetter than its predecessor, often donning ponchos to protect themselves from the final drop. Guest “Drowns” Credit: Jeremy Thompson, Flickr One Disneyland Park guest, Instagram user @evesbeautycanvas, initially hesitated to wear a poncho…In the end, she was grateful she did. In a now-viral reel, the Disney Park guest warned others not to sit in the front row of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, unless they wanted to “drown.” “PSA: do NOT ride Tiana’s front row unless you want to drown,” she wrote. “…I WAS NOT EXPECTING THIS! I thought the ponchos was a lil OD but babbbyy if I didn’t have it on…I would have had to buy a whole outfit or go home.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Evelin Beck Jimenez (@evesbeautycanvas) The video amassed thousands of likes and hundreds of comments, many of whom admonished the Disney Park guest for not expecting to get wet on a log flume ride. “Wait you mean SPLASH mountain?” @kimadict commented. “Girl u did not drown,” said @dro143_. Credit: Cory Doctorow, Flickr Still, others empathized with the Instagram user’s experience. “I will never ride this ride again,” @bethinnocenti wrote. “Rode it on my birthday and of course they put me in front row. It really doesn’t matter where you’re seated you get soaked. Horrible to have soppy shoes, socks and pants.” “When I rode this for the first time it felt like I got baptized,” @yesitsmolly_ replied. Technical Issues on Rethemed Splash Mountain Credit: Disney Despite operating for over a year on both coasts, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure continues to experience maintenance hiccups that frustrate Disney Parks fans. Just days ago, a viral video showed the final Princess Tiana audio-animatronic on the Magic Kingdom Park ride after losing her wig, her partially-exposed head creepily convulsing in front of guests. A week before that, Disneyland Park guests were evacuated from Tiana’s Bayou Adventure after their log began to take on water. Photos taken after the guests successfully exited the attraction vehicle showed the log nearly full of murky ride water. (Everyone in the affected log was given a voucher for replacement clothing.)
