49ers’ Mykel Williams planning to return from torn ACL for training camp
As the San Francisco 49ers went through a blowout loss to the Seattle Seahawks, ending their season in the wild-card round of the NFL Playoffs, the team now looks to enter the 2026-27 season fully healthy for a bounce-back year. One player who hopes to rebound is 49ers rookie Mykel Williams after tearing his ACL earlier this season. According to Nick Wagoner, Williams spoke to the media about how rehab is going for him, with the rookie saying it’s progressing positively and that he “should be” good to go when training camp rolls around. “49ers rookie DL Mykel Williams says rehab from his torn ACL is going well. He said he ‘should be’ ready to go right around training camp if not just before it opens,” Wagoner wrote on X, formerly Twitter. Playing in nine games this season, the defensive end totaled 11 solo tackles and one sack, as he continued to speak about the season-ending injury, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. “I ain’t gonna lie to you, it’s been hard dealing with something like this and just living it,” Williams said. “Probably the biggest injury I ever had, and then just the timetable that it takes, then missing all the important games that I’m missing … it would’ve been nice to be a part of that.” Mykel Williams points to one 49ers player who has helped him Though the 49ers lost in the playoffs to the Seahawks, the team will be even hungrier next season, especially Williams, who has something to prove. One person who’s been “extremely helpful” to Williams is Nick Bosa, who also has been through a season-ending injury. “Bosa’s been extremely helpful,” Williams said Monday. “He’s like a real big brother. He looks out, he comes in, checks on me, sits down, eats lunch with me, talks to me, asks me about my knee, asks me how I’m feeling. I feel more comfortable leaning on him and asking him for stuff, versus like a lot of other people … because he’s been through it. He knows exactly what it feels like and how to move.” At any rate, San Francisco looks to improve after finishing with a 12-5 record, which put them third in the NFC West. ‘An incredible place’: Volunteers help spruce up Langston Golf Course on MLK Day

Dozens spent the morning of Martin Luther King Jr. Day pulling invasive plants, grasses and shrubs along the Anacostia River and Kingman Lake. Mike McCartin, co-founder of National Links Trust, told WTOP the organization hosts this event every year. “It’s always been a very popular, but chilly, time,” McCartin said. “It’s important to the golf course because these buffer zones along the lake and the river are full of invasive plant material.” One of invasive species being targeted is the bush honeysuckle. Volunteer Bianca Andre, who has a degree in environmental studies, said it needs to be removed because it’s the favorite food of an invasive insect — the spotted lanternfly. “We’re removing some of their habitats so hopefully we have less of an infestation next summer,” Andre said. While not everyone is as knowledgeable about invasive plant life as Andre, a lot of the volunteers did understand the importance of Langston Golf Course. “Langston is an incredible place with an incredible history. It was where Black golfers who were displaced from a course around the Lincoln Memorial in the 1920s worked for 10 years to get a new course built at a time when D.C. was segregated,” McCartin said. Bianca Hill, who was one the volunteers, told WTOP that while she just took up the sport last year, Langston has been part of her family’s life for a long time. “My uncles were caddies here. I just appreciate the history of how my people have overcome and have this awesome course and opportunity for not just African Americans, but everybody to have affordable golf,” Hill said. Source

Akor Adams scores late double to save Sevilla from fifth consecutive defeat
MADRID (AP) — Akor Adams scored a second-half double, the second of which was a last-gasp penalty, to give Sevilla a 2-2 draw at home to Elche on Monday and stop it from recording a fifth consecutive loss. Sevilla came into the match having failed to score in its last four, and pressure on Argentine coach Matías Almeyda was mounting. The match quickly seemed to get away from it as Elche took the lead after 14 minutes, with Aleix Febas drilling a low shot into the bottom corner for only his second goal of the season. German Valera made it 2-0 early in the second half when he stroked home a low drive through a sea of legs after the ball was cleared from a corner kick. But Adams pulled his side back into the match 15 minutes from time when he showed quick reflexes to prod home from close range after the ball had come back off the post. Just back from the Africa Cup of Nations, the Nigeria international then secured the draw two minutes into stoppage time when he side-footed home a perfect penalty. Sevilla had also hit the woodwork twice. The result leaves it in 14th place on 21 points. Elche is eighth, one of four clubs on 24 points. ___ AP soccer: https://apnews.com/hub/soccer Source
