NFL playoff picture: Detroit Lions fall out of a playoff spot
After the Detroit Lions’ frustrating loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, they currently sit on the outside looking in when it comes to the NFC playoff race. At 6-4, Detroit still has plenty of time to climb its way out, particularly in a tight NFC North race where no one is playing particularly great football right now. But they’ll need to play some pretty clean ball down the stretch to extend their postseason streak to three. Here’s a look at the NFC playoff picture, starting with the division. NFC North standings through Week 11 Bears: 7-3 Packers: 6-3-1 Lions: 6-4 Vikings: 4-6 The Bears stunningly hold the top spot in the division now that they’ve won seven of their last eight games. Their schedule does get much tougher, though, with games against the Steelers, Eagles, Packers (x2), 49ers, and their season finale vs. the Lions. The Packers take the second spot after squeaking by the Giants, but they’re not playing very inspired football right now. Minnesota looks to be in dire straits with an offense that looks lifeless right now. NFC playoff standings through Week 11 The Lions have not only fallen out of the top spot in the NFC North, but they’re currently the first team out when it comes to any playoff spot. Check it out: Division leaders: Eagles: 8-2 Rams: 8-2 Bears: 7-3 Buccaneers: 6-4 Wild Card teams (top three advance): Seahawks: 7-3 Packers: 6-3-1 49ers: 7-4 Lions: 6-4 Panthers: 6-5 Vikings: 4-6 Cowboys: 3-5-1 Cardinals: 3-7 Falcons: 3-7 Commanders: 3-8 Saints: 2-8 Giants: 2-9 Detroit sits in the eight seed through 11 weeks and will need to make up ground soon. The 49ers will be tough to catch not only because they seem to be withstanding all of their injuries, but also because they have an impressive 7-2 record in conference games (the primary tiebreakers). The Lions, meanwhile, are just 3-3 in conference games. Detroit’s best chance is to jump a team in the division. They’re just a half-game behind the Packers and face off against them in less than two weeks on Thanksgiving. And if the Bears’ luck finally runs out, Detroit could easily catch them, currently just being a spot behind with a temporary head-to-head tiebreaker in their favor. While no one in Detroit should panic given their current standing, it does highlight how important these final seven weeks of the season will be.

Detroit Lions vs. Philadelphia Eagles first half live chat
The Detroit Lions didn’t get much help from the early games in Week 11. With the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears winning their Sunday matchups, the difference between a win and a loss on Sunday night for the Lions is the difference between first place in the NFC North (and the second overall seed in the conference) and third place in the division—and OUT of a playoff spot. Of course, the playoffs aren’t next week, and where teams stand after Week 11 doesn’t matter all that much. However, it does display just how tight the race is both inside the Lions’ division and conference. It won’t be easy for Detroit to keep pace this week, as they are in Pennsylvania for a bout with the returning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. While the Eagles haven’t quite looked as dominant as we’ve seen in recent years, they’ve still managed to put together a 7-2 record through nine games, with several wins over NFC contenders. They’re also pretty much at full health on both sides of the ball, so they’re going to give Detroit their all on Sunday. The Lions, on the other hand, are dealing with some adversity when it comes to injuries. They’re going to be without three starters in the secondary (D.J. Reed, Terrion Arnold, Kerby Joseph), and they just placed one of their biggest weapons, tight end Sam LaPorta, on injured reserve on Saturday. Will the Lions be able to pull off the minor upset and continue their hold on the NFC North lead? Or will Detroit head into Week 12 needing to play their best football in the final seven weeks of the season? 2025 Detroit Lions Thanksgiving halftime show to feature Hall of Famer rock star
Earlier this week, the Detroit Lions announced that their next three Thanksgiving Day game halftime shows are going to be executive-produced by Eminem and his manager, Paul Rosenberg. On Sunday, the team announced the performer of the 2025 Thanksgiving Day halftime show in Detroit, and it’s another local pick. Legendary guitarist and rock star Jack White will perform at halftime during the game between the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers. White was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, attending Cass Tech High School. He rose to fame as the lead singer of the rock band duo The White Stripes with his then-wife, Meg White. From there, White quickly rose to fame as one of the most skilled musicians in the modern-rock era. He formed other famous bands, including the Raconteurs and The Dead Weather. Earlier this year, White was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The White Stripes. All the while, White has stayed true to his Detroit roots. His own music label, Third Man Records, has one of its retail locations right in the middle of the city. White has also donated to several local causes, including paying off the Detroit Masonic Temple’s tax bill to prevent the venue from going into foreclosure. The halftime show will also feature an opportunity for viewers to donate to Feeding America to help those experiencing food insecurity. In addition to the Jack White announcement, the Lions also announced that gospel musician CeCe Winans will perform the national anthem prior to the Thanksgiving Day game.
