A husband and wife were killed Sunday following a double shooting at their Simi Valley home, authorities said. Simi Valley police responded to a shooting call just after 12 p.m. at a neighborhood in Hawks Bill Place near Wood Ranch Parkway. Officers arrived and found the two victims with multiple gunshot wounds in the garage of the home, according to Simi Valley police. Both victims were transported to a nearby hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries. Police described the victims as a woman and a man in their 60s. An employer identified the married couple as Dr. Eric Cordes and his wife, Vicki. “The Adventist Health Simi Valley community is heartbroken by the tragic deaths of our longtime colleague, Dr. Eric Cordes, and his wife, Vicki. Dr. Cordes was a highly respected, board-certified radiologist and beloved physician who served this community with compassion and excellence for nearly 30 years. Our hearts are with his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working alongside him as we grieve this shocking loss,” wrote Adventist Health Simi Valley in a statement to NBCLA. Simi Valley police believe the shooting to be an isolated incident. A motive for the shooting is unclear. Neighbors told police they witnessed a man get out of a vehicle and fire several rounds. No arrests have been made. Simi Valley detectives are working alongside investigators in Chino regarding a death by suicide and car fire at Ayala Park in San Bernardino County. It’s unclear whether the investigation is connected to the double homicide.

Authorities were searching for four suspects connected to a deadly stabbing in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday. Officers responded to the stabbing around 5:30 p.m. at the corner of Wilshire and Grand Avenue. The Los Angeles Police Department says surveillance video shows the victim and at least one suspect involved in a verbal confrontation outside SORO cafe. A group of four then came back to the area and stabbed the man in his 20s at least once, police said. The bloodied victim walked up to a bystander to call the police for help, according to the LAPD. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. It’s unclear if the two parties had any relation or knew each other. No arrests were made. The LAPD is urging anyone with information on the stabbing to contact police.

Two conservative challengers were practically tied for the lead in Honduras’ presidential contest with votes from about 55% of polling places counted early Monday, according to preliminary and partial results. The previous day’s vote had come just days after U.S. President Donald Trump endorsed one of those candidates and announcing that he would pardon a former president. Asfura, the 67-year-old former mayor of Honduras’ capital Tegucigalpa, ran as a pragmatic politician, pointing to his popular infrastructure projects. Some voters echoed Trump’s warnings that Moncada could lead Honduras to become another Venezuela, because Castro has maintained a cordial relationship with Venezuela President Nicolás Maduro, while simultaneously working with the Trump administration on security and immigration issues. Moncada called on her supporters shortly before preliminary results were announced to remain ready to fight until they have 100% of the results. She said she would not comment on the electoral council’s preliminary results until Monday. The last supermoon of the year will shine soon in December skies. The moon’s orbit around the Earth isn’t a perfect circle so it gets nearer and farther as it swings around. When a full moon is closer to Earth in its orbit, a so-called supermoon happens. It makes the moon look up to 14% bigger and 30% brighter than the faintest moon of the year, according to NASA. Supermoons happen a few times a year in clusters, taking advantage of the sweet spot in the moon’s elliptical orbit, and Thursday night’s event is the last of three in a row in 2025. The supermoon can be glimpsed in clear night skies without any special equipment. But it can be tough to discern the subtle change with the naked eye. Whether a supermoon or not, the moon also appears bigger when it’s close to the horizon because of what’s called the moon illusion. It’s a strange visual trick that experts can’t yet explain. “When you have a supermoon, that effect is just slightly more striking,” said astronomer William Alston with the University of Hertfordshire. Air travelers without a Real ID-compliant driver’s license or passport will be required to pay a fee to get through airport security. The Transportation Security Administration announced Monday that starting on Feb. 1, 2026, travelers who do not present an acceptable form of identification may opt to pay the fee and verify their identity through TSA’s alternative identity verification system, known as Confirm ID.  Passengers will be able to fill out the form and pay the fee online through pay.gov. before getting to the airport, or they can do so at the airport through a different line. Once approved, the identity verification would be valid for 10 days. After that period, travelers without a REAL ID or passport will need to pay the fee again if they travel. In a Nov. 20 notice published in the Federal Register, the TSA explained the fee was needed to fund the “modernized alternative identity verification program.” However, officials said Monday that subsequent analysis showed that the actual expenses associated with the Confirm ID system were greater than initially projected.  The fee will cover operational, technological, and administrative costs associated with verifying a traveler’s identity. A DHS spokesperson said the Confirm ID process will take about 10 to 15 minutes, but can be as long as 30 minutes or more, depending on verification requirements and airport security wait times. The REAL ID Act was signed into law in 2005, but it didn’t start being enforced until earlier this year following a series of delays. The law requires travelers to have a REAL ID-compliant license or another form of acceptable identification to get through security for a domestic flight.
