For $8,500, Nissan Will Sell You A Kei Truck That Still Thinks It’s The ’90s

Nissan updated the Clipper Truck to meet new rules. The model is a rebadged version of the Suzuki Carry. Visual changes include slimmer lights and a new grille. Nissan has refreshed its compact workhorse, giving the Clipper Truck a subtle update to keep it relevant in Japan’s fiercely regulated kei truck segment. The changes come on the heels of Suzuki’s recent facelift to its own Carry and Super Carry models, which share underpinnings with Nissan’s version. The original Clipper Truck began life in 2003 as a rebadged Mitsubishi Minicab. A decade later, Nissan switched partners, basing the second-generation kei truck on the Suzuki Carry in 2013. Thirteen years on, this mid-cycle refresh marks the first meaningful update, centered around visual tweaks and compliance-focused tech. More: Akio Toyoda Teased A Mid-Engine Surprise And Absolutely Meant It Literally Where the previous version featured a unique Nissan grille, the new Clipper Truck all but mirrors the Suzuki Carry. The only visual cue setting it apart is the Nissan badge perched on its stubby cab-over nose. For 2026, the truck gains slimmer LED headlights, a revised bumper intake, and fresh ADAS sensors. The Nissan Clipper Truck (above) compared to the Suzuki Carry (below). The rest of the design has been carried over from the previous Clipper Truck, while the color palette has gained a new Moss Gray option. More: This Nissan Lets You Choose The Size Of Your Grille The Nissan version is not available with the taller roof and extended-cab bodystyle of the Suzuki Super Carry. Furthermore, it doesn’t get any rugged editions like the X Limited trim of the latter, instead focused on being a basic workhorse. Interior and Safety Upgrades Step inside and you’re still greeted by a cabin that feels closer to 1996 than 2026. Exposed metal and hard plastics dominate, but there are a few upgrades to note. A new digital meter, integrated headrests, and a tray for small items join the feature list. There’s now a passenger-side drink holder and a USB port, and the center console accommodates an optional 8-inch infotainment screen. More crucially, safety has taken a step forward. The Clipper Truck now comes with lane departure prevention, road sign recognition, an emergency stop signal, and pedal misapplication control. It also benefits from a front sensor that enables intelligent emergency braking. Not Big on Power The powertrain is unchanged. Under the cab sits a tiny 658cc three-cylinder engine making 50 hp (37 kW / 50 PS) and 59 Nm (43.5 lb-ft) of torque. Buyers can choose between a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic, with either rear-wheel or four-wheel drive. More: This Van Should Be Dead By Now, But Toyota Keeps Updating It After 22 Years Sales for the 2026 Nissan Clipper Truck open in Japan on January 23. Pricing starts at ¥1,344,200 (about $8,500 at current exchange rates) and stretches to ¥1,676,400 ($10,600) for higher trims. That puts it above the Suzuki Carry’s base model, which starts at ¥1,172,600 ($7,500), despite the near-identical hardware. Nissan

The ID. Buzz Bombed, So VW’s Turning Its Attention To The T7

The facelifted Volkswagen T7 has been spied undergoing cold weather testing. It has a deceiving wrap that hides an all-new front end with larger headlights. Interior is expected to get a significant revamp and a larger infotainment system. Volkswagen brought a little bit of California to Sweden as the facelifted T7 camper van has been caught undergoing cold weather testing. Spied in range-topping Ocean trim, the van doesn’t look too remarkable at first glance. However, a closer inspection reveals the front end is covered by a photorealistic wrap of the current design. More: VW’s New eHybrid Multivans Pack AWD And Nearly Double The Electric Range As a result, the slender top intake is nothing more than a glorified sticker. The fact that the prototype doesn’t have ventilation here, suggests the upcoming production model could eschew it altogether and adopt a more traditional front end. Breaks in the wrap also suggest the headlights are larger than they appear as we can see their outline peeking through. They’ll likely be connected by a new and more minimalist light bar. Additional details are hard to make out, but we can expect a new bumper with a revamped lower intake. Cracks and bulges indicate the latter will adopt a rectangular design, which could echo the one found on the ID. Buzz. SHproshots There doesn’t appear to be any other exterior changes at this point, but the production model could have a few other tweaks including new taillights and a lightly revised rear bumper. That being said, designers appear to be paying far more attention to the front end and cabin. Speaking of the latter, the interior will get a welcome revamp that will apparently be headlined by a larger, freestanding infotainment system. The display will replace the current 10-inch screen and it’s expected to be a modern MIB4 unit like the 12.9-inch infotainment system found on the US-spec Tiguan. Besides new technology, we can expect a revamped dashboard and updated switchgear. The steering wheel also appears new, although it’s hard to be certain at this point. The current model offers an assortment of powertrains including a 2.0-liter TDI with outputs of 148 hp (110 kW / 150 PS) and 265 lb-ft (360 Nm) as well as 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 236 lb-ft (320 Nm). Customers can also get a plug-in hybrid variant with a 1.5-liter engine, an electric motor, and a 19.7 kWh battery pack. This gives the van a combined output of 241 hp (180 kW / 245 PS) and an electric-only range of 52 miles (84 km) in the United Kingdom. The facelifted plug-in hybrid could benefit from an improved battery. However, that remains to be seen. SHproshots

Mercedes Thinks A $10K Discount Will Get $165K Electric SUVs Moving

Mercedes G580 electric G-Class now has a $10,000 incentive bonus. Previous lease-only bonus now expanded to all G580 transactions. Quad-motor electric G starts at $164,550 including destination. Mercedes-Benz’s decision to offer an all-electric version of the G-Class hasn’t come without controversy. After all, one of the most iconic and traditionally rugged off-roaders can now glide along in complete silence. Still, fresh off a strong 2025 for the G-Wagen lineup in America, Mercedes is moving ahead with its electrification strategy, now aiming to boost interest in the G580 with EQ Technology. Read: Mercedes’ Electric G Flops So Hard It Could Change What Comes Next The electric G-Class is currently offered with a $10,000 Incentive Bonus, now available whether you lease or buy the vehicle outright. Previously, this discount was capped at $5,000 and applied only to lease agreements, according to Cars Direct. Whether that’s enough to sway potential buyers is another matter entirely. The G580 starts at $164,550 including destination. However, as is often the case, finding one at base MSRP is nearly impossible. A quick search on Cars.com turned up 224 listings, with only a single example priced at MSRP. Most hovered between $180,000 and $190,000. Even so, at base price, a $10,000 discount, while not insignificant, doesn’t sound like it will do much to tip the scales. It amounts to roughly 6 percent off, and for typical G-Class buyers, that might equate to a minor financial blip, not a reason to commit. Sales Flop Mercedes recently confirmed it delivered 49,700 G-Class vehicles globally last year, a 23 percent jump over the previous year and a new high-water mark for the model. What it didn’t share is how many of those were the electric G580 and how many still carried internal combustion. However, reports from early last year described the G580 as a sales “flop,” noting that just 1,450 examples had been sold in Europe as of April 2025, and only 58 in China. It was also claimed that Mercedes had failed to sell a single example in the US, though that was never officially confirmed.

Kia Might Offer A Manual K4 Hatch In America, But The Wagon’s Another Story

The K4 Hatchback launches in U.S. without manual transmission. Kia says a manual is possible if U.S. buyers show enough interest. For now, Sportswagon is Europe-only despite being built in Mexico. The Kia K4 Hatchback is finally here, and it’s rolling out to dealers as you read this. When it gets there, it won’t offer all-wheel drive, it won’t come in all the same trims as the sedan, and it won’t have a manual…

Drivers Say GM Fixed Their V8s, But The Engines Still Died

Government probes GM’s troubled 6.2-liter V8 engine again. 36 engines reportedly failed after GM completed the recall fix. Original recall covered 597,630 trucks and SUVs like the Tahoe. GM’s engine problems continue to grow as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Office of Defects Investigation is looking into dozens of reports about engine failures. These have already sparked a recall and lawsuits, but the latest investigation is focused on failures that occurred after the supposed fix. More: Lawsuit Says GM’s Fix Won’t Save Your V8 From Dying The government has received 36 complaints about 6.2-liter L87 V8 engines that failed following the remedy. The original recall involved 597,630 vehicles, from the 2021-2024 model years, and was due to connecting rod and/or crankshaft components that may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage or failure. Engine teardown analysis found this could be traced back to two key issues. The first was “rod-bearing damage from sediment on connecting rods and crankshaft-oil galleries,” while the second was chalked up to “out of specification crankshaft dimensions and surface finish.” Also: GM’s V8 Is Fueling Lawsuits Faster Than Ford Can Issue Recalls To address the issue, dealers were instructed to inspect the engine and make repairs or replacements as necessary. If vehicles passed the inspection, they were switched to a higher viscosity oil, which also necessitated a new oil fill cap and oil filter replacement. Questions Over Repair Quality Michael Gauthier / Carscoops Fast forward to today and the new investigation is seeking to determine the “adequacy of the remedy” for the recall. It involved an assortment of trucks and SUVs including the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra as well as the Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Tahoe / Suburban, and GMC Yukon. The government isn’t saying much else at this point, but the original recall suggested that only 3 percent of the 597,630 vehicles were impacted. This would equate to 17,929, but the issue appears far more widespread than that. In fact, the original recall noted the company had identified 28,102 field complaints potentially related to engine failure due to crankshaft, connecting rod, or engine bearing issues. Of these, 14,332 involved allegations of loss of propulsion. If that wasn’t serious enough, GM also identified 12 crashes and 12 injuries that could be related to the issue.
