A handful of former 49ers will return to Levi’s Stadium in a Titans uniform on Sunday
The NFL can be a cruel league. Players are waived, released, or cut based on a numbers crunch, injuries, or in the search for an upgrade. Sometimes players can spend time on a practice squad waiting for a chance that doesn’t come, and move on to greener pastures or another opportunity. Whatever the reason may be, each week you’re sure to see some familiar faces and names on opposing sidelines on Sunday. This Sunday will be no different as the Tennessee Titans travel to face the San Francisco 49ers. Five former 49ers will be in uniform, facing their former team. Each player’s time with the 49ers varies, but they are former 49ers, nonetheless. Let’s look at who returns on Sunday. QB Brandon Allen Allen started one game in 2024 for the 49ers in Green Bay while Brock Purdy dealt with an injury. The result ended in a loss, and Allen finished with a line of 17/29, 199 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. The former Bronco and Bengal threw one more pass in 2024 in mop-up duty during Week 14 against Chicago. These days, Allen spends his days backing up rookie Cam Ward, but Allen was a favorite of Kyle Shanahan during his time as a 49er. G Drew Moss Yes, Moss never took a snap as a 49er, but he was signed as an UDFA out of Colorado State. Unfortunately, Moss didn’t get a chance to contribute, even after making the 53-man roster. The 49ers waived the lineman on October 29th, and the Titans claimed him the next day. Fun fact: Moss is in a relationship with Mya Lesnar, whose father is former Minnesota Viking and WWE Superstar Brock Lesnar. DL Sebastian Joseph-Day The 49ers added Joseph-Day in 2023 during their Super Bowl run after a year-and-a-half stint with the Chargers. Three of his games were in the playoffs, including the Super Bowl, where he totaled three tackles. As a 49er, Joseph-Day finished with eight tackles; five coming in the season finale against the Los Angeles Rams. As a full-time player, Joseph-Day ranks 26th out of 128 DIs with a defensive grade of 70.6. With 13 pressures, ten hurries, two QB hits, and a sack, the former 49er is putting together a solid season for Tennessee. EDGE Arden Key In 2021, Key set a career-high in sacks with eight as a 49er. He also posted a career-high pass-rushing grade of 75.4. The former Raider signed back-to-back one-year deals with the 49ers and Jaguars before parlaying his big season into a lucrative three-year deal with the Titans. While Key was the subject of trade deadline rumors to return to the 49ers, he remained with Tennessee. Last week, he racked up nine pressures, seven hurries, and two QB hits against Shedeur Sanders and the Cleveland Browns. K Joey Slye Last but not least, there is kicker Joey Slye. In 2021, with Robbie Gould dealing with an injury, Slye stepped in and went seven of eight on field goals and two of four on XP’s. Once let go, Slye moved on to Washington, the third team he suited up for in 2021, along with Houston. Slye spent two more seasons in Washington and landed in New England for a season before Tennessee signed him for 2025.

Golden Nuggets: One more sleep until the stretch run kicks off
(paywall) 49ers vs. Titans: The Standard’s 5 fast predictions (paywall)“Kawakami: 49ers 30, Titans 13. They’re rested, they’ve got most of their main offensive stars back, they’re facing one of the worst teams in the league — this should fall into 49ers-pick-a-score territory unless there’s a major letdown. I don’t think there’ll be a letdown.“ Eric Kendricks’ journey back leads him to 49ers — maybe where he was meant to be (paywall)“Every now and then, the phone would ring. It was his fellow captain from his UCLA days, San Francisco 49ers center Jake Brendel. The 9-4 Niners are down to their third middle linebacker after losing Fred Warner and Tatum Bethune to injuries. “I was like, hey man, you still keeping in shape?” Brendel said. “We might have a ‘Mike’ job open. Curtis (Robinson) has been doing a great job, but we need someone after him. “Eric’s been a battler his whole career, and he’s an intrinsic leader.” 49ers rule out two defensive starters for Sunday’s Week 15 game vs. Titans“Bethune, who is tied for the second-most tackles on the 49ers, will sit out his third game in a row. Bethune has 64 tackles on the season. Okuayinonu will be out for his second game. He started nine of the 49ers’ first 12 games and has two sacks on the season.“ Kyle Shanahan shares final updates ahead of 49ers-Titans Week 15 matchup“I only talk to people when they’re not getting the ball when I know how much you guys are hounding them for not getting the ball. Those are the things that I don’t need to tell a guy that, if I go up to a guy and say, ‘hey, don’t worry, I still have confidence in you,’ if someone comes and says that to me, I’d be like, ‘I wasn’t worried you didn’t, what the hell happened?’ I hope my wife never tells me that for no reason. I think she genuinely likes me. So no, I don’t do that at all. But, I do feel for guys, big time, in this day and age and just how that stuff goes, that they’ve got to answer to a lot of stuff and all about stats and everything, and this is a different sport. There’s 22 people on the field and stats get a lot of people attention in a good way and they also give people the attention in a bad way. But, when it comes to our world, the football world, and what we do in these rooms and watching film, there’s no need for me to explain anything. [Ricky] understands it.” Five 49ers to keep an eye on in post-bye matchup vs. Titans in Week 15“The recipe for Tennessee will likely consist of repeated handoffs to Pollard, who rushed for 161 yards and two touchdowns against the Cleveland Browns. The 49ers must avoid missed tackles. Most of Pollard’s yards came on two plays: touchdown runs of 65 and 32 yards. Winters cannot allow Pollard to turn the corner and get upfield at full speed. He takes on a lot more responsibility with the injuries to the 49ers’ top two middle linebackers, Fred Warner and Tatum Bethune.“
