Mets-Brewers Trade Prediction Offloads Brett Baty for 200-Strikeout, 2X All-Star Starter

The New York Mets are looking to capitalize on an already busy offseason. After bringing in Bo Bichette on a massive free agency deal, the Mets are shipping Brett Baty away for another impact player. Could the Mets be in play for Milwaukee Brewers starter Freddy Peralta? Rumors indicate that the Mets might be shifting focus to the trade market, and Peralta has been the subject of trade rumors dating back to July. It stems from the fact that he’s on an $8 million option and is set to be a free agent after this season, and the Brewers are not expected to meet his contract demands, which will be a lot. More MLB on Heavy: Mets Insider Reveals Brett Baty Role After Bo Bichette Signing Freddy Peralta Predicted to Land with Mets, Brett Baty Predicted to Land with Brewers CBS Sports’ writer RJ Anderson recently did a predictions piece ranking the remaining trade candidates this offseason, and where they will land. Anderson predicts Freddy Peralta to land with the Mets, and then subsequently predicts Brett Baty to land with the Brewers, so one could assume a fair trade would be one of the player-swap variety, or the Mets would have to throw in one of their top prospects like A.J. Ewing or Brandon Sproat to throw in a deal with Milwaukee. Peralta is flourishing into one of MLB’s best pitchers, and he would be the huge splash the Mets can make on the starting pitcher front, and it wouldn’t cost them nearly $25 million AAV, which is what the top arms are worth on the free agent market at this moment. GettyWith an opportunity to further bolster their rotation, the Mets are pushing for a Freddy Peralta trade. Would it hurt to get rid of Baty, who enjoyed a breakout season in 2025? And a top prospect in Sproat? Yes, but it might be the right move to help the Mets compete in a tough National League this season. More MLB on Heavy: Mets-Pirates Trade Idea Sends $77 Million All-Star Starter to Queens for Top Prospect Why is Freddy Peralta so Valuable? Freddy Peralta is one of the most valuable starters in MLB. He’s fresh off his best season, where he posted a 2.70 ERA over 176.2 innings and had 204 strikeouts. 2025 marked the third straight season for Peralta making 30+ starts and recording 200+ strikeouts. There is no pitcher that is a current free agent who can match that value and production. That’s not to mention his ERA consistently sits in the mid-3.00s. If the trade rumors continue to swirl surrounding Peralta, David Stearns and company should absolutely consider a trade package that would include Brett Baty and a top prospect. Peralta has a career 3.59 ERA over 162 starts. The Mets could even choose to trade for Peralta, and then extend him as the Red Sox did with Garrett Crochet last offseason, and quite frankly, that would be the best option in this scenario for New York. The New York Jets, armed with two top-16 picks in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, are uniquely positioned to turn the franchise around. With Dante Moore heading back to Oregon for another season of college football, there likely won’t be a quarterback rated high enough for the Jets to pull the trigger on a new starter at No. 2, but that doesn’t mean they can’t find playmakers and add talent to their offense…

Chiefs Latest Coaching Move Will Make Patrick Mahomes Thrilled

The Kansas City Chiefs endured one of their most disappointing seasons in recent memory in 2025. After enjoying a run of dominance that coincided with the start of Patrick Mahomes‘ career, the Chiefs missed the playoffs entirely this season, with Mahomes suffering a torn ACL late in the year that could cause him to miss time to start the 2026 campaign.Assuming all goes according to plan for Mahomes with his injury rehab, he should be back on the field early next season. And when he returns, Kansas City is intent on making sure what happened this year does not happen again. As a result, head coach Andy Reid is revamping his coaching staff, and it sounds like old friend Eric Bieniemy is going to be returning to town.Chiefs Set to Hire Eric Bieniemy as New Offensive Coordinator Reunion: All signs are pointing towards Eric Bieniemy returning to the Chiefs as their offensive coordinator, sources say. With Matt Nagy out of contract and in the head coaching mix, Kansas City plans to bring back Bieniemy, a valued member of Andy Reid’s staff from 2013-22. pic.twitter.com/VtsYJxZ2xR — Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) January 19, 2026 Early in his career, Mahomes benefited greatly from having a stable coaching setup that featured Reid and head coach and Bieniemy as his offensive coordinator. As we all know, Mahomes would go on to enjoy a historic start to his career, with Reid and Bieniemy obviously playing a large role in helping his development. After the 2022 season, Bieniemy jumped ship and joined the Washington Commanders, where he worked as their associate head coach and offensive coordinator. He only lasted one season with them before he transitioned to college football, where he worked in the same role with the UCLA Bruins in 2024. After one year there, he returned to the NFL, working as a running backs coach for the Chicago Bears. With the Bears getting eliminated from the playoffs on Sunday night, and Chiefs’ offensive coordinator Matt Nagy being out of contract, that opened the door for Bieniemy to reunite with Kansas City. After reports emerged early on Monday linking the two sides to one another, it appears as if a deal has been hammered out.“Reunion: All signs are pointing towards Eric Bieniemy returning to the Chiefs as their offensive coordinator, sources say,” Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported. “With Matt Nagy out of contract and in the head coaching mix, Kansas City plans to bring back Bieniemy, a valued member of Andy Reid’s staff from 2013-22.”Chiefs Hoping Eric Bieniemy Can Help Get Offense Back on Track GettyThe Chiefs are reportedly set to bring Eric Bieniemy back to town to be their new offensive coordinator Since Bieniemy’s departure, the Chiefs’ offense has struggled to reach the heights it hit during his time in charge. While they still made it to the Super Bowl in 2023 and 2024, missing the playoffs entirely this year let everyone know that something has to change. The hope is that with Bieniemy back, the offense will open up again in 2026 and beyond.Of course, the team around Mahomes needs to be better than it has been the past few years, which has set the stage for a very important offseason in Kansas City. Getting Bieniemy back is undoubtedly a big win, but it won’t mean much if the Chiefs don’t go out and reinforce their roster over the next few months. Like Heavy Sports's content? Browns History with Sean McDermott Resurfaces After Bills Firing Amid Head Coach Search

Could the Cleveland Browns circle back to Sean McDermott for their vacant head coach position? The Buffalo Bills surprised the industry Monday morning by firing McDermott, less than 48 hours after they lost 33-30 to the Denver Broncos in the AFC Divisional Round. McDermott, 51, interviewed for the Browns job in 2016 before the owner Jimmy Haslam ultimately hired Hue Jackson, who infamously went 3-36-1 in parts of three seasons in Cleveland before he was fired midway through the 2018 campaign. McDermott Fired After 9 Seasons With Bills After being spurned by the Browns, McDermott — the Carolina Panthers’ defensive coordinator from 2011-2016 — landed in Buffalo, where he helped turn around one of the NFL’s most crestfallen franchises. In McDermott’s first season at the helm, the Bills went 9-7 and qualified for the postseason for the first time in 18 years. The Bills went 6-10 the next season, with Josh Allen as a rookie, but then followed that campaign with seven consecutive trips to the AFC playoffs. Altogether, the Bills went 98-50 and won five AFC East titles under McDermott, plus 8-8 in the playoffs. But the team’s inability to reach the Super Bowl ultimately led to his dismissal. “Sean helped change the mindset of this organization and was instrumental in the Bills becoming a perennial playoff team,” Bills owner Terry Pegula said Monday in a statement. I respect all the work, loyalty and attention to detail he showed for this team and the community.” Who Will Be the Browns Next Coach? Here Are the Candidates: McDermott has already expressed his desire to continue coaching, and with seven vacancies throughout the NFL — not including the Bills — he stands a pretty good shot at landing another job. As of Monday, the Browns had conducted interviews with at least eight known candidates: Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski, Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, Rams pass game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase, Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken, Seahawks defensive coordinator Aden Durde, Bengals offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher, and recently fired Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, as well as both of their own coordinators: Tommy Rees (offense) and Jim Schwartz (defense). Kevin Stefanski was fired earlier this month after six seasons at the helm. He went 45-56 and made two trips to the playoffs, winning AP Coach of the Year both times (2020, 2023). While the Browns have already scheduled second interviews with some candidates, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them gauge McDermott’s interest based on their past. Like Heavy Sports's content? 49ers’ George Kittle Shares Big Achilles Injury Update

The San Francisco 49ers‘ offseason is underway after their elimination from the playoffs after losing 41-6 in the divisional round to the Seattle Seahawks. One of the main storylines for the Niners heading into the 2026 NFL season will be the recovery of George Kittle.Kittle suffered a torn Achilles tendon injury during the 49ers’ wild-card win over the Philadelphia Eagles. It was another blow for San Francisco, who couldn’t escape the injury bug all season to their top and even depth players. On Jan. 19, Kittle spoke with the media and shared the latest regarding his recovery, as the veteran will likely do his best to be ready for Week 1 later this year. “Overall, I’m fantastic,” Kittle said (h/t 95.7 The Game). “Surgeon went really, really well. The surgeon was incredibly happy with it. A little background into it: He said, ‘Best-case scenario when you tear an Achilles is that you tear it up high by your soleus,’ which is what I did. I had a clean tear. I didn’t have to drill into my heel. Where the repair was is where there was more blood flow. “It takes some time off the recovery time. He’s very excited about everything—my recovery, when I’ll be running, when I’ll be ready to play again. He’s very excited about it. That puts me in a really good mood. It’s not as bad as the other ones, so just excited about that.”49ers’ George Kittle Confirms Tequila StoryMoreover, Kittle also confirmed the tequila story, noting that he had the alcoholic drink in the locker room once the 49ers star knew he tore his Achilles tendon. “My first response to that is, ‘Can I get Jed fined? What’s the question? Can I get Jed fined by talking about tequila?’ I would stop,” Kittle added (h/t 95.7 The Game). “Yeah, it happened. Had a great time.”If the 49ers pursue a tight end either in the draft or free agency, perhaps it will allow them to take their time with Kittle and not rush him for Week 1 to ensure that the player is fully healthy once he’s ready to go for the 2026 season.49ers Need to Address Injury Woes This OffseasonInjuries have been a major storyline for the 49ers for a while. As a result, CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones is urging San Francisco to find the root of the problem and address it as injuries have held this team back.“The Niners have to figure out how to get healthier,” Jones said during a Jan. 17 appearance on CBS Sports HQ. “This continues to happen to them time and again because if you look at it, if they can stay moderately healthy, average health, they will make the playoffs every year. They will make noise in the playoffs. I can go on, and we could talk about how they need another wide receiver, and they do.“They need some depth on the defense and certainly they could use some pass rush and some corner help. There’s no doubt that if they ran it back with the team that they have and even lose the free agents that they’re going to have, if they could stay healthy, 75 to 80 percent healthy, they’re in the NFC Championship game. I absolutely mean that. But instead, they can’t.” Like Heavy Sports's content? Be sure to follow us.
