Miami Heat’s Bam Adebayo Named Eastern Conference Player of the Week

Mets-Brewers Trade Prediction Offloads Brett Baty for 200-Strikeout, 2X All-Star Starter
The New York Mets are looking to capitalize on an already busy offseason. After bringing in Bo Bichette on a massive free agency deal, the Mets are shipping Brett Baty away for another impact player. Could the Mets be in play for Milwaukee Brewers starter Freddy Peralta? Rumors indicate that the Mets might be shifting focus to the trade market, and Peralta has been the subject of trade rumors dating back to July. It stems from the fact that he’s on an $8 million option and is set to be a free agent after this season, and the Brewers are not expected to meet his contract demands, which will be a lot. More MLB on Heavy: Mets Insider Reveals Brett Baty Role After Bo Bichette Signing Freddy Peralta Predicted to Land with Mets, Brett Baty Predicted to Land with Brewers CBS Sports’ writer RJ Anderson recently did a predictions piece ranking the remaining trade candidates this offseason, and where they will land. Anderson predicts Freddy Peralta to land with the Mets, and then subsequently predicts Brett Baty to land with the Brewers, so one could assume a fair trade would be one of the player-swap variety, or the Mets would have to throw in one of their top prospects like A.J. Ewing or Brandon Sproat to throw in a deal with Milwaukee. Peralta is flourishing into one of MLB’s best pitchers, and he would be the huge splash the Mets can make on the starting pitcher front, and it wouldn’t cost them nearly $25 million AAV, which is what the top arms are worth on the free agent market at this moment. GettyWith an opportunity to further bolster their rotation, the Mets are pushing for a Freddy Peralta trade. Would it hurt to get rid of Baty, who enjoyed a breakout season in 2025? And a top prospect in Sproat? Yes, but it might be the right move to help the Mets compete in a tough National League this season. More MLB on Heavy: Mets-Pirates Trade Idea Sends $77 Million All-Star Starter to Queens for Top Prospect Why is Freddy Peralta so Valuable? Freddy Peralta is one of the most valuable starters in MLB. He’s fresh off his best season, where he posted a 2.70 ERA over 176.2 innings and had 204 strikeouts. 2025 marked the third straight season for Peralta making 30+ starts and recording 200+ strikeouts. There is no pitcher that is a current free agent who can match that value and production. That’s not to mention his ERA consistently sits in the mid-3.00s. If the trade rumors continue to swirl surrounding Peralta, David Stearns and company should absolutely consider a trade package that would include Brett Baty and a top prospect. Peralta has a career 3.59 ERA over 162 starts. The Mets could even choose to trade for Peralta, and then extend him as the Red Sox did with Garrett Crochet last offseason, and quite frankly, that would be the best option in this scenario for New York. Chiefs Latest Coaching Move Will Make Patrick Mahomes Thrilled
The Kansas City Chiefs endured one of their most disappointing seasons in recent memory in 2025. After enjoying a run of dominance that coincided with the start of Patrick Mahomes‘ career, the Chiefs missed the playoffs entirely this season, with Mahomes suffering a torn ACL late in the year that could cause him to miss time to start the 2026 campaign.Assuming all goes according to plan for Mahomes with his injury rehab, he should be back on the field early next season. And when he returns, Kansas City is intent on making sure what happened this year does not happen again. As a result, head coach Andy Reid is revamping his coaching staff, and it sounds like old friend Eric Bieniemy is going to be returning to town.Chiefs Set to Hire Eric Bieniemy as New Offensive Coordinator Reunion: All signs are pointing towards Eric Bieniemy returning to the Chiefs as their offensive coordinator, sources say. With Matt Nagy out of contract and in the head coaching mix, Kansas City plans to bring back Bieniemy, a valued member of Andy Reid’s staff from 2013-22. pic.twitter.com/VtsYJxZ2xR — Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) January 19, 2026 Early in his career, Mahomes benefited greatly from having a stable coaching setup that featured Reid and head coach and Bieniemy as his offensive coordinator. As we all know, Mahomes would go on to enjoy a historic start to his career, with Reid and Bieniemy obviously playing a large role in helping his development. After the 2022 season, Bieniemy jumped ship and joined the Washington Commanders, where he worked as their associate head coach and offensive coordinator. He only lasted one season with them before he transitioned to college football, where he worked in the same role with the UCLA Bruins in 2024. After one year there, he returned to the NFL, working as a running backs coach for the Chicago Bears. With the Bears getting eliminated from the playoffs on Sunday night, and Chiefs’ offensive coordinator Matt Nagy being out of contract, that opened the door for Bieniemy to reunite with Kansas City. After reports emerged early on Monday linking the two sides to one another, it appears as if a deal has been hammered out.“Reunion: All signs are pointing towards Eric Bieniemy returning to the Chiefs as their offensive coordinator, sources say,” Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported. “With Matt Nagy out of contract and in the head coaching mix, Kansas City plans to bring back Bieniemy, a valued member of Andy Reid’s staff from 2013-22.”Chiefs Hoping Eric Bieniemy Can Help Get Offense Back on Track GettyThe Chiefs are reportedly set to bring Eric Bieniemy back to town to be their new offensive coordinator Since Bieniemy’s departure, the Chiefs’ offense has struggled to reach the heights it hit during his time in charge. While they still made it to the Super Bowl in 2023 and 2024, missing the playoffs entirely this year let everyone know that something has to change. The hope is that with Bieniemy back, the offense will open up again in 2026 and beyond.Of course, the team around Mahomes needs to be better than it has been the past few years, which has set the stage for a very important offseason in Kansas City. Getting Bieniemy back is undoubtedly a big win, but it won’t mean much if the Chiefs don’t go out and reinforce their roster over the next few months. Like Heavy Sports's content? The Victor Wembanyama reason Anthony Edwards was an All-Star starter snub
The starters for the 2026 NBA All-Star Game were announced on Monday, and when it comes to the Western Conference, one of the biggest snubs was Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards. Edwards lost out on a starting nod for the All-Star Team by the slimmest of margins. Both Anthony Edwards and San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama finished with the exact same weighted score of 5.75 in the voting, but Wembanyama ultimately got the fifth and final starter spot for the Western Conference All-Star Team due to having a higher rank in the fan voting. Edwards finished with a seven in the fan voting while Wembanyama finished with a six. Edwards is certainly deserving of a starting All-Star spot, and he will no doubt be selected to the reserve team once the coaches make their picks. The Wolves are currently in fourth place in the West standings, and Edwards is a legitimate candidate for the MVP Award. He’s appeared in 34 games this season, at a little over 35 minutes per game. He’s been averaging a career-high 29.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.3 steals with splits of 50.4 percent shooting from the field, 41.8 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 78.8 percent shooting from the 3-point line. Once the coaches name Edwards to the reserves, he will be making his fourth consecutive All-Star appearance. Meanwhile, the other West All-Stars consisted of Luka Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Stephen Curry and Nikola Jokic. The Eastern Conference All-Stars were Cade Cunningham, Jaylen Brown, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jalen Brunson and Tyrese Maxey. The 2026 NBA All-Star Game will take place on Feb. 15 at Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, CA. Texas Tech flips Virginia transfer commit to bolster defense
Texas Tech is coming off a playoff berth in the 2025 season and has already been active in the College Football Transfer Portal. They landed the top quarterback available, as Brendan Sorsby has committed to Texas Tech. Now, they have added to the defensive side of the ball, flipping a player in the transfer portal. Kent State transfer EDGE Jamond Mathis has flipped his commitment from Virginia to Texas Tech, per Hayed Fawcett on On3Sports. Mathis committed to Southern Illinois out of high school and redshirted in 2023 as a freshman. He would then break out in 2024 with the Salukis, registering 8.5 tackles for a loss and three sacks. This led him to hit the transfer portal, committing to Kent State for the 2025 campaign. He played in all 12 games in 2025, with 28 total tackles, eight tackles for a loss, six sacks, three pass breakups, and six quarterback hits. The edge rusher often became the subject of double teams in passing downs, as teams keyed in on his pass-rushing ability. He had two games with 1.5 sacks, while also registering a tackle for a loss and a sack against Oklahoma. Mathis is not the only EDGE coming into the Texas Tech program for the 2026 season. He is joined by Adam Trick, coming in from Miami (OH), Amarie Fleming from Allen University, and Trey White from San Diego State. This was a major loss for Virginia, but not something that it cannot overcome. While Mathis was expected to contend for playing time with the Cavaliers, they have also brought in Matthew Fobbs-White from Baylor, Nnanna Anyanwu from UTSA, and Devon Baxter from Michigan. Texas Tech was one of the best defensive units in the nation in 2025, but it will be losing players such as Jacob Rodriguez, who will be heading to the NFL. Mathis is likely to make his debut with the Red Raiders on September 5th against Abilene Christian in Lubbock, Texas. Broncos’ JK Dobbins ‘has a chance’ to return from injury for AFC Championship Game
Following the gut-wrenching Bo Nix injury news, the Denver Broncos may have to heavily rely on their running game in order to clinch their first Super Bowl appearance in a decade. The backfield as currently constructed has struggled of late, but there is a possibility it gets a huge boost for Sunday’s AFC Championship matchup versus the New England Patriots. Denver is opening the practice window for JK Dobbins, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The 27-year-old RB suffered what was believed to be a season-ending foot injury in November, but against all odds, he actually has a chance to play against the Pats. Broncos rookie RJ Harvey struggled versus the Buffalo Bills in Saturday’s AFC Divisional Round thriller, posting six carries for 21 yards. Jaleel McLaughlin was more efficient — four rushes for 21 yards — but head coach Sean Payton will need more from the group against a dangerous New England defense. An active Dobbins could provide Denver with the additional production it requires to win the conference. He was an undeniable difference-maker when healthy during the regular season, rushing 153 times for 772 yards (5.0) and four touchdowns in 10 games. The 2020 second-round draft pick continues to overcome one injury setback after another and produce on the field. But can he do so on Sunday afternoon? The Broncos will trust their vaunted defense to punish MVP candidate Drake Maye and hope that they can ride their home-field advantage to Santa Clara, California. Backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham may not have to be a hero for Denver to defeat the Patriots, but he will need to retain possession for a sufficient amount of time. JK Dobbins could certainly help in that regard. Now, Broncos Country eagerly awaits the next injury update, as the clock ticks down to Championship Sunday.
