Steelers Net Major Boost to Attack In Latest 2026 NFL Draft Mock-Up
KC Concepcion, Texas A&M Athletics From the time they traded George Pickens away last offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers dealt with questions surrounding their receiving corps. Tailback Kenneth Gainwell paced the team in receptions as Aaron Rodgers waited for someone other than DK Metcalf to step into a highlight role. Pro Football Focus’ Gordon McGuinness proposed a fix for the Steelers and whichever head coaching candidate they choose to take charge. McGuinness had them taking Texas A&M wideout KC Concepcion with the No. 21 overall pick of his latest 2026 NFL Draft mock-up. “It’s an offseason of change for the Steelers, with head coach Mike Tomlin stepping down after the team’s wild-card round loss to the Houston Texans,” McGuinness wrote Sunday. “Big questions remain at the quarterback position, but answers are unlikely to come in the first round of the draft. Pittsburgh’s other big problem on offense was wide receiver depth. “Concepcion earned a 78.2 PFF receiving grade against man coverage in 2025 and would pair nicely with DK Metcalf.” The Pittsburgh Steelers’ midfield logo at Acrisure Stadium during a Wild Card playoff game against the Houston Texans. Ed Thompson/Steelers Now Concepcion was the fifth receiver chosen in the projection. Ohio State’s Carnell Tate (No. 5, New York Giants), Arizona State’s Jordyn Tyson (No. 6, Cleveland Browns), USC’s Makai Lemon (No. 8, New Orleans Saints) and Washington’s Denzel Boston (No. 16, New York Jets) all went before him. Concepcion, a North Carolina State transfer, notched 61 receptions for 919 yards and an SEC-leading nine touchdowns with the Aggies as a junior. He declared for the draft last month. Calvin Austin III and Scotty Miller are both free agents this offseason. Adam Thielen recently retired after spending the final weeks of his career in Pittsburgh. This article originally appeared on Steelers Now: Steelers Net Major Boost to Attack In Latest 2026 NFL Draft Mock-Up

Steelers Re-Sign Former Pitt Product
Pittsburgh Steelers long snapper Cal Adomitis, a Pitt product, during practice on Friday at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. Ed Thompson/Steelers Now The Pittsburgh Steelers have re-signed long snapper Cal Adomitis to a reserve/future contract for the 2026 season, the team announced on Tuesday. Adomitis, a Central Catholic and Pitt product, has played in 58 games during his career, including 49 with one of the Steelers’ AFC North rivals, the Cincinnati Bengals. He appeared in nine contests for the Philadelphia Eagles before being waived in early December. Adomitis was signed to the Steelers’ practice squad and joined in on its indoor session on Friday, Dec. 19. The Steelers’ usual long snapper, Christian Kuntz, landed on the injury report with a knee ailment on Thursday and was listed as questionable for his team’s matchup with the Detroit Lions. “I got the call yesterday. I was actually in Arizona for a workout,” Adomitis said after practice at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. “And I got the call from my agent (saying), ‘Hey, you’re flying back to Pittsburgh.’ So I got back here late last night, and came in this morning, went through the whole physical process and (I’m) just waiting to see what the deal is for Sunday and staying ready.” Pitt long snapper Cal Adomitis. — David Hague, Pittsburgh Sports Now Adomitis and Kuntz are training partners in the summer. The former said it’s “like a weird fever dream being out there both in a Steelers uniform practicing. It was definitely a funny day.” Getting up to speed, Adomitis added, is part of being a professional. Long snapper terminology and schemes don’t vary much from place to place. As for the sudden change, returning from the desert to a snowy Steel City, he accepts it all as part of the job. “You’ve gotta keep the perspective that that’s kinda part of the fun in it, and just enjoy the process,” Adomitis said. “My job doesn’t really change no matter where I am, so I’m ready to go if I’m called. I’m just trying to enjoy the ride and enjoy being in the black and gold.” Adomitis was not elevated to the 53-man roster for the final three regular-season games or the Wild Card round game. During his senior year at Pitt, Adomitis raised over $114,000 in 2021 to donate towards the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Adomitis said cutting off his hair to raise money for Children’s was his way of giving back. “The actual idea grew from something I used to joke around with my old roommates about. When I first grew my hair long, they were like, ‘how much would it cost for us to cut your hair?’ Coming into this year, with the excitement around this team, I thought we could really capitalize on that to raise money for a great cause and then shave it off at the end after doing something good,” he said. AFC Team Requests to Interview Arthur Smith for OC Position
Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith at OTAs on May 29, 2025. -- Ed Thompson / Steelers Now The Los Angeles Chargers have requested to interview Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith for their offensive coordinator vacancy, per NFL Network. Smith’s had two head coach interviews and is also a candidate for the Detroit Lions offensive coordinator job. Smith remains under contract for the Steelers for the 2025 season, even though Mike Tomlin stepped down as head coach on Tuesday. The Arizona Cardinals submitted a request to interview Smith for their head coach vacancy, according to a report by NFL Network. The Cardinals are the second team to request an interview with Smith, following the Tennessee Titans. A Memphis native, Smith has deep ties to Tennessee, where he spent most of coaching career. He also served alongside current Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort when he worked for the Titans. Former Titans offensive tackle Taylor Lewan gave Smith an endorsement for the Titans’ vacant head coach position. The Titans’ final three head coaching candidates are — Jeff Hafley, Matt Nagy and Robert Saleh, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. “It’s insane Arthur Smith is not apart of this list. – when he was at the Titans the offense was the best it’s ever been. – understands this ownership and the people – has learned a lot since his stint in ATL He would be a great HC for the Titans,” Lewan wrote on X. Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith at training camp on July 30, 2025. — Ed Thompson / Steelers Now Steelers president Art Rooney II revealed during his Wednesday press conference that he does not think anyone on the staff currently will be a candidate for the vacant head coach position. “Right now, I don’t think anybody on our staff is a candidate,” Rooney said. “Maybe a candidate to stay on the staff depending on what the new head coach wants to do, but probably not as a head coach.” Smith is the only one that could have been seen as a candidate. There is a chance that he could stay on the staff with a new head coach, however. Both of Tomlin’s initial coordinators, Dick LeBeau and Bruce Arians, were holdovers from the previous staff. Smith, 43, was the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons for three seasons before joining the Steelers, posting a 7-10 record every year before being fired. He rehabbed his reputation in Pittsburgh by his offense over-achieving its talent level. In 2023, the year before he arrived, the Steelers finished 28th in scoring under Matt Canada. In Smith’s first season, that jumped up to 16th and then 15th in his second season in 2025. In the middle of last season, Smith turned down an opportunity to coach at his alma mater, North Carolina — a job that eventually went to Bill Belichick. He was also a finalist for the New York Jets head coaching job that eventually went to Aaron Glenn. Terrible Towel Curse Strikes Again: Texans Eliminated after Mascot Rips Towel
A Terrible Towel at Acrisure Stadium during a game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers on Nov. 12, 2023. -- Ed Thompson / Steelers Now The Terrible Towel curse appears to have struck once again, and this time the Houston Texans learned the hard way after their season ended with a 28-16 loss in the AFC Divisional Round in New England. What initially looked like harmless celebration following Houston’s Wild Card win over the Pittsburgh Steelers quickly turned into fuel for one of the NFL’s most enduring superstitions. After eliminating the Steelers last week, Texans mascot Toro posted a video on social media ripping a Terrible Towel. Around the league, many fans dismissed it as standard trash talk, but Steelers fans have seen this story unfold too many times to ignore it. Historically, whenever an opposing team disrespects the Terrible Towel, their own success seems to unravel shortly afterward. TEAR-A-BULL pic.twitter.com/jmIKlus673— TORO 🐃 (@TexansTORO1) January 13, 2026 One of the most recent examples came in 2023, when the Jacksonville Jaguars entered a Week 8 matchup at 5–2 and defeated Pittsburgh. Following the win, safety Andrew Wingard stomped on a fan’s Terrible Towel in celebration. From that moment on, Jacksonville’s season collapsed, as the Jaguars won just three more games the rest of the year and ultimately lost a crucial Week 18 matchup to the Tennessee Titans, a loss that directly helped send the Steelers to the playoffs. Jaguars safeties Rayshawn Jenkins and Andrew Wingard wave around a Terrible Towel following an interception. Jacksonville would miss the playoffs in a late season collapse. Oct. 29, 2023 – Ed Thompson / Steelers Now The trend goes back even further. In 2016, former Cincinnati Bengals running back Jeremy Hill attempted to rip a Terrible Towel after a touchdown that put Cincinnati up 16–3. From that point on, Pittsburgh took control, outscoring the Bengals 21–3 the rest of the way and completing a 24–20 comeback win. Even earlier, in 2005, Bengals players wiped their cleats with a Terrible Towel ahead of a playoff matchup with Pittsburgh. That game ended with quarterback Carson Palmer suffering a devastating knee injury, while the Steelers advanced and went on to win the Super Bowl later that season. Whether coincidence or football karma, the pattern has remained eerily consistent over the years. While the Terrible Towel may appear to be just a piece of yellow fabric to outsiders, in Pittsburgh it represents decades of pride, tradition, and identity and the Texans are simply the latest reminder that disrespecting it rarely ends well. This article originally appeared on Steelers Now: Terrible Towel Curse Strikes Again: Texans Eliminated after Mascot Rips Towel
