MM 1.20: Diggy Coit named Big Ten Co-Player of the Week
Maryland men’s basketball guard Diggy Coit was named Big Ten Co-Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. First came 30 points against the Trojans in a 17-point loss — an impressive showing, but nothing compared to what came next. Coit reached that 30-point mark in the first half against the Nittany Lions, and finished with 43 in total — the most ever scored at Xfinity Center and the second-most in a game in program history. This is Coit’s second Big Ten Player of the Week nod this season — the first also came after a 40-piece. He’s the second player in Maryland history with two 40-point games, in both a season or career. Wisconsin’s John Blackwell earned the other half of this week’s award for a 27-point, six-rebound and five-assist game against Minnesota, capitalized by a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to win the game. In other news Stefon Diggs and D.J. Moore both scored touchdowns in the NFL Playoffs divisional round, but only Diggs moved on — and Moore made headlines for the wrong reason. Check out Justin Glenn’s recap of how Maryland football alumni fared this weekend. 330-pound defensive tackle Eyan Thomas — who transferred to Maryland football from Saint Francis (PA) last offseason — will return to the program in 2026.
