Blowout loss to Cleveland Browns shows Las Vegas Raiders have no direction under Pete Carroll

John Spytek needs to be kept by Las Vegas Raiders in 2026
There might be big changes at top of the Las Vegas Raiders’ organization again. After this awful season, there is a chance that the team could move away from head coach Pete Carroll (or let him walk away at the age of 74) and starting quarterback Geno Smith after just one season with the organization. They have already jettisoned offensive coordinator Chip Kelly after just 11 games. There are compelling cases for the Raiders to cut ties with all three figures. They just simply haven’t done a good job this season. However, there is one key new figure in the organization who should, without question, be given more time and that’s general manager John Spytek and his front-office staff. Let’s be honest, Spytek hasn’t done a good job yet, either. His fingerprints are on this mess of a season just like Carroll, Kelly and Smith. His draft class has been underwhelming and the few moves he made in free agency hasn’t moved the needle much, either. So, this isn’t an endorsement of what Spytek has achieved in his first season as a general manager. But with that being said, there isn’t a big reason to get ride of him, either. In fact, there is major reason why Spytek should remain on the job and that’s continuity. The Raiders needs some consistency and stability at the top of the franchise. If Carroll is let go, the Raiders will be hiring their fourth full-time had coach since 2022 and they would be going one and done with coaches in two straight years. That’s insane and quite dysfunctional even by the standards of the Raiders during this volatile century. Moving away from Carroll, Kelly and Smith certainly wasn’t the plan, either. All of those moves may become necessary. Getting rid of Spytek isn’t. There needs to come stability if those moves are made. Spytek and his staff (which is well regarded) need time to build the program. Spytek and the team’s ownership will need to finally make the right call with the head coach. But he needs to be involved. Join the conversation! An argument could be made that Tom Telesco didn’t deserve to be fired after one season as the team’s general manager earlier this year. So, that same move can’t happen twice. Again, Spytek hasn’t proved he’s a good hire. But he needs time. In a perfect world, Carroll, Kelly and Smith would have all received more time, but they have already failed enough that is is worth considering moves away from them. If that becomes a reality, someone needs to stick around and it’s the general manager. If Spytek fails to impress after a couple of more seasons, then the time for another front-office change will come. That time isn’t now, no matter what happens with the futures of Carroll and Smith. A Greg Olson refresher

Las Vegas Raiders keep stumbling in home loss to Browns
When I wrote: “You can’t spell “incompetent” without Pete” seven games into the Las Vegas Raiders 2025 campaign, it was dubbed by some as too harsh. That column was written after the Silver & Black went into they bye week off a 31-0 shellacking by the Kansas City Chiefs and, despite a valiant effort out of the hiatus (30-29 overtime loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars), Pete Carroll’s Raiders have dropped five-straight games with Sunday’s 24-10 lopsided home loss to the Cleveland Browns. At 2-9 overall, is that opening line to my column “too harsh” or about right? Crazy he’d say that about his own firing https://t.co/dAEpS6SDCe— Matt Holder (@MHolder95) November 24, 2025 Because 11 games into the 2025 season, these Carroll-led Raiders are still stumbling along, making mistakes that should be reserved for preseason and the first four weeks of the regular season, incompetent surely sums up this football team. “You mentioned execution by players. John McKay was once asked, ‘What do you think your team’s execution? He said, ”The execution is that I think it’s a good idea.” But I never did really understand how he was willing to say that, but I just did it,” Carroll jokingly said when asked who is at fault at the team’s lack of execution. “So anyway, we have to execute better. We have to match up better. We have to do a lot of things better to get the kind of play we need. And so, we’re looking at us in practice, and we’re able to do it there. We’ve got to carry it to the games, and the teams are out there playing, too.” Forgive Carroll for joking. Because after all, that’s what his football team is: A joke. Paced by pass rushing phenom Myles Garrett, Browns dropped Raiders quarterback Geno Smith 10 times highlighting (or lowlighting) Carroll’s decision to make his son Brennan the offensive line/run game coordinator heading into this 2025 campaign. 10 SACKS FOR BROWNS TODAY.3 FOR MYLES TODAY.18 FOR MYLES ON THE SEASON.CLEvsLV on CBS/Paramount+https://t.co/HkKw7uXVnt pic.twitter.com/hzwSJXLfny— NFL (@NFL) November 24, 2025 Overall, Las Vegas’ offense couldn’t do much other than give rookie running back Ashton Jeanty the ball — 17 caries for 50 yards (2.9 yards per carry average), eight receptions for 58 yards and a touchdown as Smith ended up 30 of 44 for 285 yards with that lone score and — gasp! — no interceptions. The Raiders defense did have its moments. Such as an interception from edge rusher Charles Snowden and defensive end Malcolm Koonce showing the pre-ACL-injury burst and closing speed on a sack. Las Vegas star pass rusher led the team with eight total tackles and a game-high five tackles for loss. But with the offense unable to stay on the field, Chip Kelly’s group sure looked like the Tom Walsh/John Shoop 2006 offense. Cleveland, meanwhile, wasn’t without it’s own brain farts, however. This long pass from quarterback Shedeur Sanders to wide receiver Jerry Jeudy is humorously repeat-worthy: Huge punch out for the Raiders defense after a big gainCLEvsLV on CBS/Paramount+https://t.co/HkKw7uXVnt pic.twitter.com/5wQdPPfruW— NFL (@NFL) November 23, 2025 Let’s hit the quick slants as fast as this game got out of hand for Las Vegas: —Sanders wasn’t spectacular against the Raiders defense finishing 11 of 20 for 209 yards with one touchdown and interception. The rookie quarterback was also sacked once. But the Colorado product did showcase a live arm and stayed on his feet sans that one takedown he absorbed. —Browns rookie running back Quinshon Judkins finished with two touchdowns on 16 carries and 47 yards. Both of his end zone visits arrived in the first quarter and would be the duo of touchdowns scored until the fourth quarter. —Veteran receiver Tyler Lockett paced the Raiders air attack with four receptions for a game-high 62 yards. His 15.5 yards per catch average also led the Silver & Black. Tight end Brock Bowers added six catches for 55 yards while veteran Ian Thomas hauled in four passes for 36 yards.…

Thomas Harper adds to long list of Raiders’ bad roster decisions
The Las Vegas Raiders continue to embarrass themselves this season, and the Week 12 loss to the Cleveland Browns is just another example. The Raiders’ current roster is a collection of bad decisions, making this week’s check-in on old friends sting more as former safety Thomas Harper had a big game for the Detroit Lions. Of course, we’ll also take a look at how Sunday treated Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers. As for Josh Jacobs, he was inactive with the knee injury that caused him to leave last week’s game early for the Green Bay Packers. Thomas Harper Game result: 34-27, Lions win Stats: 6 tackles, 1 INT, 1 PBU Harper was part of the Raiders’ roster cuts at the end of training camp and got claimed by the Lions. While he didn’t get much playing time during the first half of the season, he’s been a starter since Week 7 with Kerby Joseph on injured reserve and has played well. Harper had his best game on Sunday, coming up with a PBU and a fourth-quarter interception to help fuel the Lions’ comeback in the overtime win. The safety also ranked fourth on the team in tackles and has had 11 in the last two weeks combined. That played a big factor in the team’s much-needed overtime win. He’s up to 12 catches for 155 yards and a touchdown in four games since getting traded to Jacksonville, and the Jags head into Thanksgiving with the AFC’s six seed/second Wild Card spot at 7-4. He came into the weekend leading the league, and his two scores against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers pushed the wideout to 12 on the year. That also means Adams is six touchdowns away from tying his career high of 18 in 2020, and ranks one away from tying Antonio Gates for the seventh-most all-time. Meanwhile, the dominant win means the Los Angeles Rams are currently the one seed in the NFC with the Philadelphia Eagles’ loss. Raiders Week 13: Meet the Chargers
As the Las Vegas Raiders will close Thanksgiving Weekend at AFC West foe, the Los Angeles Chargers Sunday at Sofi Stadium. Kickoff is set at 1:25 p.m. PT. Let’s take a quick look at the Chargers: Record: The Chargers had a bye in Week 12 after playing at Jacksonville in Week 11 in a stunning 35-6 loss. So, they will be very well rested as they sit at 7-4 and in the middle of the AFC playoff chase. SoFi House of Horrors: We al know Raiders’ fans take over SoFi Stadium when they paly there. But it hasn’t helped much. The Raiders are 1-4 at SoFi Stadium against the Chargers, their only win coming in their first trip there, in 2020 with no fans in the stands. The Raiders are also 0-2 at SoFi Stadium against the Rams. So, they are 0-6 there with fans in the stand. Last meeting: In Week 2, the Chargers easily beat the Raiders 20-9 at Allegiant Stadium in the Raiders’ home-season opening game.
