Bayern Munich News: Everton, Olympique Lyon, Olympique Marseille eyeing Bayern Munich’s Sacha Boey; Man City’s Erling Haaland has no answers; and MORE!

Boey’s options becoming clear (Kicker’s Georg Holzner via @iMiaSanMia) Could Bayern Munich still sell Sacha Boey during this transfer window? Maybe. According to this report, Everton, Olympique Lyon and Olympique Marseille are still interested in right-back Sacha Boey: Everton, Olympique Lyon and Olympique Marseille are among clubs monitoring the situation of Sacha Boey. Bayern remain open to a January sale. Hasn’t Everton already been burned once by Bayern Munich with an outside-back? It appears as if the English club is undeterred by its experience with Adam Aznou and could look back to Bayern Munich for Boey. As for Olympique Lyon and Olympique Marseille, both could be a good landing spot for Boey, who speaks French. It did not go well: 🚨 Arne Slot when asked about Xabi Alonso and Liverpool job: “Xabi called me saying he will take over six months! No, no, no… One of the weirdest questions I’ve ever got!” “I am working here for 18 months and I like my work here. Won the league, struggled more this season, that is obvious.” Look, reporters are there to ask questions, but that is a stupid question. Schalke reaches agreement with Džeko…can clubs agree on move? (Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg) Schalke 04 could be closing in on a move for Fiorentina striker Edin Džeko: 🚨💣 BREAKING | Schalke 04 and Edin #Dzeko have reached a full verbal agreement. Negotiations with Fiorentina are now under way. Baumann/Muslic worked hard and convinced him. #S04 appeal to him, as revealed yesterday. Now only an agreement between the clubs is needed. @Sky_Dirk @SkySportDE Even at 39-years-old, this seems kind of wild. Džeko has two goals in 18 games (722 minutes) across all competitions for Fiorentina. Odds are slim for longer Jackson stay (Kicker’s Georg Holzner via @iMiaSanMia) As it stands (and as expected), Nicolas Jackson is not likely to remain at Bayern Munich after this season: The clear indication as things stand is that Nicolas Jackson will not be signed permanently by Bayern in the summer, not even for less than the agreed €65m option to buy. Jackson’s performances will be closely monitored for the rest of the season. Only a significant increase in the level of performances would make the club reconsider signing him. ICYMI: Haaland has no answers after City upset (Fabrizio Romano) FK Bodø/Glimt shocked the world and beat Manchester City 3-1 in the Champions League. Afterwards, Erling Haaland had no answers for what went wrong: 🚨 Erling Haaland: “I don’t have the answers. I take full responsibility of not being able to score”.“I just apologise to everyone; every single Man City supporter, every supporter that travelled to Bodo, because in the end it’s embarrassing”, told TNT Sports. pic.twitter.com/8DuHVeCjsU— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) January 20, 2026 If you are looking for more Bayern Munich and German national team coverage, check out the latest episodes of Bavarian Podcast Works, which you can get on Acast, Spotify, Apple, or any leading podcast distributor… Join the conversation! Bayern Munich exec confirms Lennart Karl contract happiness

Real Madrid might have to wait for a very long time. Bayern Munich’s footballing sensation Lennart Karl, who has been touted as “Messi 2.0”, “the best thing since sliced bread”, “the heir to Thomas Müller”, etc etc. has been going from strength to strength this season. At just the age of 17, the phenom has made himself a legitimate starting AM option for the world’s best club at the moment, Bayern Munich. That is no…

Union Saint-Gilloise not going to back down from Bayern Munich

Union Saint-Gilloise has nothing to lose. No one expects the Belgian side to stroll into the Allianz Arena and take down Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Even with the odds stacked against it, Union Saint-Gilloise is not going to just rollover and give the game to the Bavarians. “Everyone knows Bayern are the favorites. We want to play our game and see what happens. We have to believe 100%; that’s all we…

Midweek Warm-up: Former Bayern Munich prospect Mathys Tel is cautionary tale, but he still has hope; Champions League predictions; Throwing it back to Siouxsie and The Banshees; and MORE!

At one point, Mathys Tel looked like he was destined to be a part of Bayern Munich’s future. A dynamic attacker back in the 2023/24, Tel was thought to have the ability to shift out to wing and bring a goalscoring threat to that position. After all, he did register 10 goals and six assists during that initial campaign in Bavaria. That, however, did not work out as planned. Even with the support of Vincent Kompany, Tel had trouble functioning as a wing and struggled as a striker as well. Quickly, it was determined that the Frenchman needed a change of scenery, so a loan to Tottenham Hotspur and eventually a full transfer seemed to represent the chance for a reboot. That also is not working — and Tel might have the lost the trust of head coach (for now) Thomas Frank, who excluded the 20-year-old from his latest Champions League squad, which has angered is camp per Fabrizio Romano: 🚨⚠️ Tottenham manager Thomas Frank excludes again Mathys Tel from Champions League squad list. Frank makes space for Dominic Solanke and the only way was to remove Tel. ❗️ The French striker and his camp, not happy at all with the decision. With Tel unhappy, Paris FC is seeking to attempt to bring him back to France on a full transfer per Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg: 🚨👀 Mathys #Tel remain the absolute dream transfer target for Paris FC until Deadline Day. Tel still wants to leave Tottenham, as revealed. Edin Dzeko is also on the list, but Tel is internally ranked as the clear number one priority.@kerry_hau @SkySportDE It seems — once again — that Tel needs to change things up in hopes of rediscovering that ability that made him such an intriguing prospect not all that long ago. The positives for Tel include that he is still just 20-years-old and that he has proven that — when right — he can score in a top league. However, Tel still does not seem to have a true position. Playing as a wing, just does not seem to be within his skillset, while Tel has also not yet shown he can produce as a solo striker on a consistent basis. In truth, he is probably best used as a left striker in a formation that include two strikers. This little nugget seems to limit the opportunities for Tel. Most fans likely hope that Tel will be able to turn things around and reach the potential that so many once saw in him. The bottom line on Tel’s tenure in Bavaria, though, is that Bayern Munich got out at the right time for everyone. The Frenchman’s progress was stunted at Bayern Munich and his exit helped pave the way for roster openings for players like Luis Díaz and Lennart Karl. All in all, this was how it needed to be for both Tel and Bayern Munich. From here, it is up to him to prove he can be as good as he thinks he is and some fans think he is as well. Song of the Midweek: “Kiss Them for Me” by Siouxsie and The Banshees Today, we’re venturing back into the 90s…1991 to be specific. This one was right before grunge took over and was a staple for the burgeoning alt rock genre and 120 minutes on MTV. Known mostly for their work that was considered “post punk” or “gothic rock” in the 80s, this one just always sounded good to me…and still does. Enjoy: Entertainment Rundown We will breakdown HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms on Friday. Spoiler Alert: It was not a great opening. Stranger Things Stranger Things mega-fans need to let it go. The ending — which was perfectly fine — is being crushed, which is okay (everyone has their own opinions). Clearly, it was not going to please everyone. However, the ridiculous demands that one character needed to hook up with another or that some inane plot-point like needing to know what happened to the long-hair, stoner pizza delivery guy from California needs to be addressed…just stop and grow up. The latest “controversy” stemmed from Finn Wolfhard (Mike)’s stint as host of Saturday Night Live appeared in a skit with Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas) and Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin) where they lampooned potential Stranger Things…

Bayern Munich star Aleksandar Pavlović happy with health, eager to see attack vs. Union Saint-Gilloise

Bayern Munich midfielder Aleksandar Pavlović is aware of the danger that Union Saint-Gilloise will present in the Champions League. However, the 21-year-old is also looking forward to seeing Bayern Munich’s attacking group get back at it on the pitch. “They are very compact, they defend strongly and counter very well. We have to be careful in our defensive midfield. They have technically gifted midfielders and…

Former Bayern Munich striker Mathys Tel caught in a storm of controversy at Tottenham Hotspur

Anyone remember Mathys Tel? Signed by Bayern Munich for what was a record fee for a 17-year-old back in 2022, he moved to Tottenham Hotspur on loan in 2025. The club ended up making a tidy profit on the venture, buying the Frenchman for €20m and selling him for €35m + the €10m loan fee. Tel was always a hard worker, endearing himself to the fans with his talent and strong desire to stay at the club. It didn’t work…

Union Saint-Gilloise boss says Bayern Munich showdown is biggest game in club’s history

Union Saint-Gilloise head coach David Hubert thinks that his team’s Champions League showdown against Bayern Munich is the biggest match in the club’s history. “It doesn’t get any bigger than this – it’s the biggest game in the club’s history. Bayern are right up there when you look at the best teams in Europe. You can’t find a bigger challenge. But there’s confidence and hunger in our…

Home-field advantage? Bayern Munich’s Vincent Kompany, Aleksandar Pavlović will miss suspended Südkurve

Bayern Munich’s rabid fan section, the Südkurve, will be empty on Wednesday vs. Union Saint-Gilloise. Earlier in January, the club made the decision to close the section because the ultras lit up the Allianz Arena with pyro against Sporting Club in the Champions League last time out. Now, blocks of seats are closed against Union Saint-Gilloise: As tickets for FC Bayern’s home games in the lower tier of the Südkurve are not allocated by block and all 9,336 tickets are valid for blocks 109 to 117, it is technically impossible for the club to cancel only the 4,800 tickets for blocks 111 to 114. For this reason, all tickets for the Südkurve will be cancelled in a first step, and the club will refund the ticket price to the respective purchasers. All tickets for the Südkurve will therefore lose their validity and will not entitle holders to admission to the Allianz Arena for the game against Saint-Gilloise. The tickets will be cancelled on Friday. Should the tickets for blocks 109 to 110 and 115 to 117 go back on sale at a later date, FC Bayern will provide timely and specific information about the further procedure and organizational details. Head coach Vincent Kompany is disappointed that he will not see the Südkurve in action. “That’s a pity, of course. Bayern have always been successful at home in the Champions League, and that’s always been due to the support of the fans. We’ll still have 70,000 fans out there, but of course we hope that this won’t happen often. The fans are very important to us,” Kompany said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). Similarly, midfielder Aleksandar Pavlović will miss the boisterous fans as well. “Of course it’s a pity they won’t be there tomorrow. They’ve always supported us. I hope it’ll be just for this game and that they’ll be back for the next game. We just have to play our game tomorrow,” said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
